Through the Hands of Craftsmen

I'm Wilson Capron I'm here to Cowboys crossings in Oklahoma City I created these Spurs kind of a melting pot of my different interest I I grew up in West Texas night I love the Spanish Spanish culture these Spurs represent that I study firearms and grave and European firearms and graven these these Spurs have some some of that and and then I lived in West Texas so these birds also a little bit of Texas in them so there's really not a style that I can save it these particularly pertain to other than it's just me I love every last minute of it because it is me and it's my interest and it's just an expression of and totally enjoyed the whole process thank you hi I'm John Williams mom with the traditional cowboy Arts Association and we're here at the National Cowboy ugm for our show a few minutes to talk about my saddle project in our so it's a Spanish style I'm ganna put features iron co-hosts made by Russell gates and iron hardware by Russell gates and sterling silver silver by Scott Hardy one of the interesting things about the whole side was all the flower curving and all the silver work has been filigree which means the background the layer of difficulty template gives it a much more of a refined look to the whole project I wanted a saddle that credibly regal type of refined look to offset how large I don't think the whole project is to laden with the silver work this makes it look credibly more refined probably one of the most funnest projects I've ever worked on at time contaminating but very very pleased without burned-out just hope everybody enjoyed quicker medical it was a lot of fire little my name's Scott Hardy and with the traditional clerics Association actually at the moment I'm president of TCA a we're at the National Kovach Museum for our annual TC a show at come across some major project this year as a consul belt which I'd had in my mind for ten years I've always believed that the women of the West should be able to celebrate – so this buckles made up of fifteen conchos and varying sizes all sterling silver with 18 karat gold pots the decoration is filigreed which means the background is taken out and then remaining scrolls are relieved and raised and then fully an engraved this project was a lot of fun to do I wanted to make it so that it was easy to wear so the belt could go behind the conchos and it wasn't a problem for the wearers wasn't hanging down to clutter the architecture of the piece we've got approximately 270 hours of working this there's times when you you bite into a big project regret doing that partway through but this this project was a lot of fun for me and it really pushed me so even though it's 270 hours I didn't feel I am Russell Gates wrote in Texas TCA spur backwards and bit my groom and this year of peace so drawing I've had sitting around a few years that slowly been modified rehashed of course the influence is resigned as honestly I don't remember exactly is either agreed for Roman culture architecture was on and likes a doctor only for a couple years things change plastics by classic spa.you mouthpiece that there is some things that are non-traditional about it the conscience they are not riveted on or bright it on there put on with the Machine screws on a lot of makers do some of the hand there's nice the first time I've ever done that and really made my work easier still a clean look you get a single thing after it's all been engraved in my finishes your honor so it really made things easier nothing particular thing different about it any other Spade didn't like yeah it was mainly a countable machine job it's the biggest probably is this bit during the construction there's five whales up and down the shank and it was kind of file work in the well it was probably the second part of the project and like I said I kind of tried to mirror some of the architectural after that let's figure out the thing rain change the swivels on the chains now like I said you can kind of see the architectural influence you

Let's not glorify bits and spurs. They are not needed to properly communicate with the horse.
