The Secret to a Clean and Organized Home

if I pick you up in suburban Jesus oh hey guys welcome back I thought I'd share with you today the secret to having a clean and organized house the three steps that you have to take in order to have a clean house that like perpetually stays clean and organized I spent years as a complete slob and every like new year's resolution was to get organized and I would go to the store usually Walmart and buy all the storage containers and I'd fill up my cart and I'd come home and they'd throw a bunch of crap in a container and I would still be a mess like despite my best efforts I just could not get on top of housework and cleaning the house back then was spending an hour or two over way more than that let's be honest picking up stuff like I wasn't even cleaning I was tied in because I had to tidy in order to get to the surfaces to clean so vacuuming wasn't done very often because it was like a three hour ordeal to pick up all the dirty clothes and all the stuff off my floors in order to actually vacuum or cleaning the kitchen was put him away all the dirty dishes washing them all and you know clearing off my counters before I could even wipe the counters down I was a disaster and I tried every trick like every new product I thought maybe there was like something I was missing out on or some like words of wisdom that could transform my life the actual steps I needed to take I didn't know them and I wasn't doing them so I'm going to share those with you now because here's the thing there is no magic secret there is no way that you can do nothing and have a clean house but there is a way that you can do the minimal amount of work possible and that's what I are all about clinging the least amount of effort for the biggest reward because there is nobody who actually likes cleaning their house well there there are people who like like cleaning their house but I call them unicorns not that they don't exist but at their magical human beings that have like rainbows coming in their butt and they you know feel a sense of pride and joy and scrubbing toilets they see it as a gift that they're giving back to their family I love unicorns I wish I was a user crying nada you I'm like a troll okay there's no there's no rainbows coming out by but I hate scrubbing toilets I hate cleaning so I want to do it as the least amount like I want to do it as less often as I possibly can but still have a clean house so those are the three steps I'm going to share with you today so you can have a clean house that you don't have to be a unicorn to get there and you don't have to spend all of your time being a clean freak so step one to having a clean house is probably going to make you grown a little bit but I promise you it's pretty much the most important step and that is having a daily cleaning routine or a weekly creating receive having a routine I just read this book from a slob comes clean and it's called how to manage your home without losing your mind and basically the entire book is just the importance of having a cleaning regime and that was key for me to going from uh slob to a clean person was when I finally wrote down a routine put it on my fridge and did it every single day yes it's not fun but here is the thing every single day is key I thought come clean and I our routines look completely different and your routine is not going to be the same as mine because everybody sort of has different things going on in their life an example would be I do a load of laundry every day I have to do a load every day every morning I put it in I switch it over I take it out I fold it in every night before bed I put it away that doesn't work for her and it doesn't work for everybody maybe you leave the load in for days on end you for Yukie pre-washing the same load over and over again is that for you if that's what's happening for you then maybe you need a one day a week cleaning routine for laundry like one day a week you do all the laundry for me I also do a little bit of cleaning every morning and every night so I do a quick mop I do a quick like does I do a quick tidy up but that doesn't work for everybody especially if you crazy busy and you're so exhausted at night you just want to fall into bed you may have to do a one day a week big cleaning thing so one day you mop one day you vacuum you're getting the idea here of a routine right you're gonna have to make up your own but here is why it is important dishes have to be done every single day all of these sort of cleaning jobs that we do a lot parking amounts of picking up in the tidying part the actual cleaning parts if you do it every day or every couple of days you're going to save yourself so much time I used to have dishes that if you forget to do the dishes one night I used to do this and then the next day you have to like chisel that crap off or the dishwashers you know won't fit all the loads because it's two days worth of dishes you have to wash a whole bunch by hand and something that should be a five-minute job is now a 20 minute job or a half an hour job and the cleaning the kitchen has become this huge ordeal that you probably procrastinate because you know it's going to take like an hour now because you put it off so long it should never take that long and if you'll do a little bit every day or you have a routine that you're constantly doing your bathtub is never going to get so disgusting that you literally have to scrub it with comet in order to get it clean it's going to be a quick wipe down and that's it you are going to save much I promise you I wish there was another secret I wish I had like cleaning fairies that flew out and cleaned while I slept maybe I used to but my desk bunnies have obviously murdered them because now I have to clean my house by myself and the best way to do it is with a routine so I'm going to put a link to my cleaning routine below but like I said it's not going to be the same with yours so get a piece of paper write down your routine find one on Pinterest that you think you could stick to whatever it is stick it on your fridge and make yourself put on your big-girl pants and do it every single day step 2 for having a clean and organized house that stays that way forever and ever and ever is feeling the urge to purge you got to get rid of a lot of stuff I'm doing like the Great Purge of 2017 where I'm getting rid of a ton of stuff and this was really key for me to transfer over from like my hosting a complete disaster to being really clean all the time was just having less stuff it wasn't even that I thought I had too much stuff out it was the stuff that was stored in the basement or the garage or in closets or in junk drawers it was the stuff that I wasn't using and didn't even see all the time that was taking up that valuable real estate that I needed for the stuff that was laying out all the time like I was like I had no space to put in here stuff away or it wasn't easy to put step away because the spot that should go we're being filled up with stuff I didn't need or want or like and everything I can't I realize it's just more to take care of it's more to dust it's more to clean it's more to just be in charge of and I have enough to be in charge of so every time I purge every time I purge unwanted things my life gets easier it's like magic so I'm going to start my big purge tomorrow so definitely come back for that and I'm just going to purge constantly until I get my house to a level where I feel like the things I have are the things I love and I use and anything unwanted or unneeded is going to go step 3 is having between the organized house forever and ever and ever and ever is definitely getting it actually organized so you into a routine you're cleaning a little bit every day or at least every week and you've purged a bunch of stuff now it's time to actually like organize and the reason this is important is when things are properly organized you're not going to have to leave it out on your counter or leave it on top of your dresser or you know have the I love clutter the pile of clutter will be gone because it's just going to be as easy to put that thing away as it is to leave it out on the counter if it's just as easy you're going to put it away and once the clutter is gone the actual cleaning your house part is minutes like minutes I want you to imagine if you had to vacuum and dust your house but you didn't have to pick anything up first or you wanted to clean the kitchen but all the dishes were already put away or in the dishwasher and the counters were clean you had to wipe them look imagine the time-saving and that's what it's really all about once everything is organized you don't have to spend all of that time picking up in order to clean cleaning your house is literally cleaning your house like it so the difference when you get on top of your house organization-wide when things are really organized the tidying part will take you minutes so the cleaning part can also only take you minutes so 15 minutes a day to keep a clean house is realistic for some of you I know you said to me like that's impossible how can you clean your house in 15 minutes a day I hear you because I was there where I couldn't even like get a section of my calendar cleaned in 15 minutes because it was so messy you're right you can't clean your house in 15 minutes a day when it's disorganized so you still have to stick with your cleaning routine get it to being like a daily habit that you do without even thinking and on top of that lowly purge and then slowly organize your space before you know it I promise you it doesn't take as long as you think before you know it you'll be on top of things your house will be clean and organized and you'll have so much extra time and be so much happier and who knows you might transform into a unicorn I have not yet but I'm optimistic it might happen thanks and look and make sure you come back for tomorrow where I start my Great Purge of 2017 I'm excited for that I can't wait to share it with you so we'll see you then tonight I'm doing an interview with Vicki from joy of mom on Facebook on her Facebook page it is a live sort of organising talk we're doing I love joy of mom so make sure you tune in for that I'll put the link below so thank you guys so much for those of you who have stepped at the end I appreciate it I wanted to show you my kitchen today's really it's pretty messy and the reason is I've been so lazy basically all the over the holidays when we have that illness and now I'm crushing how to get away with murder on Netflix basically the entire season in two days I'm terrible but um so I'm cleaning right now it's two o'clock in the afternoon you gotta know pseudo-class in the afternoon I've done nothing today so I'm going to clean the kitchen right now before my husband gets home and I guess my point of this little rant is you can take a couple days off you can slap like once you're on top of things you don't have to be like a crazy person who cleans everyday or or does that you still have to do your basic like dishes I do the laundry my basic 15 minutes but you don't have to be a total clean freak to have a clean house and when things do get super messy like this it's like five minutes all they have to do is load the dishwasher put away the placemats wipe the counters and have done and I've done so this is just like this is it now it's like maintenance mode and if you need to take a vacation from it it's totally okay but you have to like first do the three steps we talked about earlier and get on top of things and you can just sit pretty I think that I think that's the secret to life let me give you my wisdom I have no wisdom but I think doing something a little bit every day is sort of the secret it's probably the secret to fitness isn't it in health if I walked 15 minutes a day every single day or if I made a commitment to meal plan a healthy meal every single day 15 minutes a day I probably would not have the issues that I'm having with my butt butt not my butt but my weight my size my back oh god this is going bad anyways my point is even like my book so like how do you write a book I literally was like oh man my alarm would go off my phone would be like ah I have to write for 15 minutes today and I forced myself to like write a couple like for 15 minutes I could like bang out a thousand words right and before I knew it an entire book was written and that that's how it got done for me that's how everything I accomplished in my life gets done is forcing myself to be consistent to do things a few minutes every day and it's not like I'm crushing it out there let's be honest I'm not like well a rock star or anything but for me that's the only way I can accomplish things is to just make a plan put it on the fridge make it alarm in my phone perhaps and force myself to work towards that goal every single day even if it's only for 10 or 15 minutes so that my time window with you for 2017 I I don't always stick with mine but expect with the house living I can manage my housework for the most part so that's something anyways thanks so much for watching come back tomorrow when I'm doing this big purge I'm so excited I'm doing my makeup I think I'm going to like purge and organized areas at the same time and show you those as I go and I plan on doing like the whole house all over again because go on beat em up like I'll want to be minimalist this year that's my goal I'm going to be like a compart minimalist because I like my stuff and I'm not going to be full minimalist maybe like mini minimalist yeah I'll see you tomorrow

This is the first video of yours I've ever watched. I'm what my friends and family call a "clutter-monster" (I'm one of those people who amazes everyone in their life by living in what looks like piles, but miraculously knows where everything is). And while what I do teeeechnically works for me, I am not just a clutter-monster… I am also a social-monster! I love to entertain, and knowing where everything is isn't enough there! So I'm working on the "looks like piles" aspect of my habits… and I just have to say, you are so cute and bubbly and cheery and you're perfect and I love you. You actually get me PUMPED to start tidying up my house! Haha thanks for being so relatable and genuine. <3 Keep up the wonderful!

When I hear people mention their dishwasher it makes me think of them as unicorns. I have been the dishwasher for years and I HATE it. Someday I will have my own machine…. a girl can dream.

It's actually comforting to know it's not just me! Lol. Between work, kids, husband etc. (I know, husband is same category as kids when talking about cleaning) I get overwhelmed.

You are amazing! You are my favorite organizer. I've watched other videos and have found them helpful but no one holds my attention like you. You always make me laugh especially when I've "Stayed Till The End"? I'm working on my second purge year. I'm well on my way to finding the balance to a semi minimalist lifestyle. Whenever I'm feeling blah and need motivation I see what Cassie has to say❤ Look how much you have accomplished.. Truly inspiriting. It definitely helps to have some humor about what life throws us and laugh at ourselves when we do stupid things. Thank You Infinity

Here is the problem it doesn’t matter what I do. I have a toddler and have another one coming that rips all my stuff out. No matter how much I organize it gets all ripped out. I can never mop or vacuum because there is no clear space! I’m trying to tidy up as we speak and my toddler just tossed it all over as I do it…. ?

Excellent points, simply presented using easy to understand language. But as my teacher used to say theory is easier than practice so I'll see how the implementation part works out. ??

How do I'm fine my things after I've put them away? I'm one of those that likes to see everything I need on a daily basis. I also have so many projects going and I'm not a one project at a time. I have to hold it up and look at it while thinking " how can this be better and what does this need now?"
I'm also an artist/musician with art materials everywhere!
I'm a guitarist with lots of wires, gadgets and toys laying around!
I actually need to get help organize all thus stiff and its not cleaning its organizational issues!
