Take a look inside Apex Friendship Middle

Hello. I’m Shejuanna Rogers. I’m the proud principal of Apex Friendship Middle School. Welcome to our wonderful school. Welcome to our wonderful Media Center. This is one of the focus points of our school. It has two levels. It is designed in such a way that the furniture – we have soft furniture with fabric; we have some high-top table furniture; and chairs. We’re also able to have two classes meet in this facility at the same time and still have plenty of space to to work and to learn. Our Media Center is filled with wonderful, wonderful books and one of our favorite books here is called Stubby, the War Dog. It comes highly recommended by our media specialist Miss Jennifer Cassidy. So when you come for Meet the Teacher or our transitional camp, please be sure to stop in and ask Miss Cassidy for some recommendations. This theater holds about 499 seats and we are so looking forward to putting on wonderful performances, band concerts and dance performances and chorus. Again just a wonderful place to showcase our students’ talents. Hello. My name is Greg Purvis and I’m the athletic director here at Apex Friendship Middle School, home of the Chargers. This is our main gym>Its going to house basketball. Its going to house the volleyball games. We’re going to have gym class here. We have two indoor gym facilities and this is our main one. You could tell this is where we’re going to play the basketball and volleyball games. And now we are in the auxiliary gym. You see it’s a full-size basketball court without the bleachers but this is where we are going to do a lot of our activities. Hi. I want to talk a little bit about our CTE classes. That’s Career and Technical Education classes. We offer several different classes by grade level and one of the classes that we offer is called FACS Family and Consumer Science. In this class, students learn about nutrition and cooking and sewing. You also can take a section of the class around interior design. So if you’re interested in learning more about these, then please sign up to take our CTE classes. Hi. I’m Jesse Gore I’m the instructional facilitator here in the Apex Friendship Middle School. We are in a typical classroom. I want to walk you through some of the furniture options that our students have. Our environment is set up for meeting the needs of all of our students and so you’ll see some atypical furniture that might not be found in other classrooms. So right here we have a stand up, dry erasable table. Benefits of this: we have the stools available for students if they want to sit, but also students can stand behind the tables and work. And many of our tops in our classroom are dry erasable so students can make notes while they are learning. Moving over, you’ll notice that we have wheels on our furniture. This allows teachers and students to move into collaborative groups and to be as comfortable as they need to be while they’re learning. And then moving over here, we have what will be our teacher desk. The thing that we like about these teacher desks is the ability for students to pull up to the desk and work with their teacher one-on-one or in small groups. And this really will help create an environment that’s conducive to our students learning. Hi. I want to talk a little bit about our collaborative spaces. This is a wonderful space for our students to come outside of the classroom and come into what we call our collaborative space, where there’s this furniture that will allow them to work together on different projects. The teachers can also run a small group in this area. And again this is exciting because we are one of a few middle schools in Wake County to have this space already built into our school. Welcome to our fantastic art class. We are so excited to see all of the wonderful projects that our students will be able to create in this wonderful classroom. I hope you enjoyed the tour of our school Apex Friendship Middle School. We have a beautiful facility and boys and girls we’re going to be ready to go come August 27.
