Shop With Me @Hobby Lobby | Staging My Painted Furniture for Instagram and Marketplace

hi everybody its Christina from pretty
distressed welcome back to my channel in today’s video I’m gonna take you
shopping with me at Hobby Lobby and as we go along I’m gonna show you the
things that I look for when I’m buying items to stage furniture so if you want
to come shopping with me just keep watching if you are new here you will
normally find me on here painting furniture and refinishing furniture and
I give you tips on how to do that on your own so if you are interested in
learning more about that please consider subscribing before you leave so as you
can tell I’m in my car so that means it’s another shop with me day I know
I’ve done Hobby Lobby before but I put it out to you guys my youtube community
and Instagram and it was unanimous that everybody wanted me to go to Hobby Lobby
again today but since I’ve done it before I wanted to put a little
different twist on it I’m gonna take you guys and show you the things that I look
for when I’m buying pieces to stage my furniture I’m gonna give you tips of how
you can use them and actually show you real-life examples of how I incorporate
different staging elements into my furniture and it just is something nice
when you’re sharing your pieces with other people on Instagram it just makes
them look really professional and it also helps me sell stuff when I’m
selling on marketplace or on my website just having a nice staged photo seems to
help sell things faster than just throwing it up there by itself so let me
grab you and we are gonna go shopping you guys have seen me shop Hobby Lobby
before I have been into shopping here for a very long time even before I
started painting furniture I know some of you have told me that you don’t have
a Hobby Lobby close to you but they do have a pretty wide variety of offerings
online they don’t have everything that they have in store but I will link
everything below these aren’t affiliate links or anything I’m not sponsored by
Hobby Lobby in any way I just really love it so I’m gonna bring you along
today as I shop the first section that I’m gonna hit up today is the floral
department the easiest way to dress up a piece is to put a little pop of green on
top I actually have this tin at home not a big fan of the bow so I usually turn
it around but you can see how I recently styled my dixiebell dresser makeover
that I did this one is $9.99 and I also liked this little guy just because I had
a little more height this would work better for
like a bigger more kind of grandiose piece very similar to how I put a little
pine tree on top of this guy in the winter this one’s a little bit more
expensive because of its size it was 1499 but if you want to fill the space
up of a dresser like that and not use height another good rule is to do like
little groups of three and this one is perfect it already comes in a set
I like the burlap and the chicken wire on this one because it just goes really
well with my style this one is twenty six ninety nine because it is a bit more
substantial and has all those components but you could make your own grouping of
three I like these little guys because of their round shape and I like the
terracotta color of the vase they are $9.99 a piece and you could put these in
a group of three and if you don’t know about the rule of three it’s just this
rule in the design world that groupings of three are really appealing to the eye
I don’t really know who decided this but most designers go by this rule so I
follow it too next up I like these little mini wreaths I like this lambs
ear one and then they had a lavender one as well and I think these are a great
accessory for like a hutch if you’re not wanting to style the whole thing you
could just hang this on the handles of the hutch and have a little bit of
staging in a quick amount of time and we actually saw this one on the way out of
the store it really caught my eye because of how big it is this would be
super easy just to throw on a dining table or on a kitchen table that you’re
trying to stage but it had a hefty price tag at 70 bucks so I would definitely
wait for this guy to be on sale or use your 40% off coupon ok these guys were
not in the floral section they look like little olive trees and they were back in
one of the vignette sections in the back of the store they really reminded me of
the little tree that I used when I did my son’s black desk they had two
different heights of these the tall one was $34.99 and then the smaller one was
$24.99 there were a couple of other items I liked that were grouped kind of
in this little vignette section these wooden vases are so beautiful these
would be really great on a really colorful piece or on a white piece just
a contrast with that paint to have that natural wood in there the bigger one was
$15.99 and then this one is $12.99 but these were marked 50%
off the sales are gonna change weekly so I don’t really want to focus on that too
much just check your circular before you go or you can download the app and it’ll
tell you the deals for the week and it’ll also give you a 40% off coupon
that you definitely will probably want to use on full price items the next item
I really liked in this section were these wooden natural beads they had two
different sizes the longer one was $19.99 and then the smaller one is
$17.99 and these are a really great price you are kind of seeing these all
over and they kind of cross a bunch of different styles right now so it’s
something good to have on hand next up I’m gonna show you mas balls again I
know I talked about these in my last video but I’m showing them again because
these are the best quality mas balls for the best price that you can get and
these are really easy to throw like in a dough ball and put on top of a table you
can also throw these in a bowl or on top of some white China I like to do that if
I’m using it on top of a stained piece like I did here with this milk painted
dresser these are awesome price for a Moss balls $8 for the big ones and I
think four or five dollars for the smaller ones and then here’s another way
you can go too I really liked these little decorated wooden balls these
would be cool like in a basket or something like that on top of a dresser
and these are a little bit more expensive they’re $9.99 apiece but they
were part of that 50% off sale this little vase caught my eye I thought it
was so pretty and neutral it would be a nice thing to top off maybe a more
colorful piece would be cute to grab one of those little box wood balls and put
that in there it would be a nice pop of color and the space was $15.99 but again
it was part of that 50% off sale I really loved this seated glass jar as
well I love the color I like that it’s not clear it has a little bit of that
sea glass tint to it it would be really cute to throw like a eucalyptus stem in
there or something like that this is $39.99 but it’s again part of that 50%
off sale another thing I like to do when I’m styling furniture just to fill in
like the blank sides is grab a basket and throw some blankets or some pillows
in there that match the piece I really like
this basket that I found it’s like a sea grass look 39.99 but these were 50% off
in this aisle and I already said this once but make sure you check out the
circular to see what’s on sale that week or you can download the app though these
are some great pillows that you could throw in a basket next to a dresser I
like this one because it has that green sack look but it’s a neutral color so I
think it could go with a lot of different pieces and it’s a good price
$21.99 and then I also liked these two pillows that I found like in the
farmhouse section aisle I like this really neutral one because it has
texture so it’s gonna add something to your picture and I like this other one
that kind of looks like the grain SEC but it’s a little bit brighter so it’s
known as dingy as the other one if you’re going for a cleaner look the
smaller one was $24.99 and then the bigger one was $29.99 a really easy way
to dress up a piece of furniture is just a throw and ice cream plant in the
corner I really love this one this is their fiddle fig leaf all their trees
look really realistic but they are expensive so I kind of save my 40% off
my one-time coupon that I could use for big purchases like this I also really
like this lemon tree it adds a little bit of color and it is slowly starting
to her place the fiddle fig is the most like popular fake tree you’re gonna see
on Instagram and in decor I also really like the olive tree just because it’s a
little different still adds that greenery this one’s a little bit less
expensive this one’s $99.99 I also really like the dirt that each of those
plants have because it just helps make it again look just a little bit more
realistic and I have some great pots that you can actually put these plants
in this was one of my favorite ones it’s only $13 but I had to show it to you
actually assembled because they had them folded I’m like well that’s weird but
when you fold it up they also had a black one that these are really cool
really inexpensive and because it isn’t a real plant this isn’t going to get
messed up and wet and stuff so I really liked these for the price that they are
but if you’re not into you know that textured look they have some great vases
that I actually liked I love this one I like the
to tone look and how kind of like rustic the bottom looks and that it kind of
looks like cement but then if you don’t want to do all that and you just want
something plain that you don’t want to detract from your furniture these two
white ceramic ones are great I wanted to throw this in here because I get
questions about a lot this is the sign that I have styled with my daughter’s
dresser and people have said where is that and I haven’t seen it in store for
a long time because I got a long time ago but they actually have it again and
it’s $29.99 I staged a lot of my furniture actually inside my house and I
sometimes try to put it under things that are already hung on the wall but
it’s also a great idea just use a command hook to hang something above it
or you could just set it on top like I did with the picture with my daughter’s
dresser and I really liked this piece it’s just something different as opposed
to just a regular old picture and it was $27.99 and I also headed over to the
spring shop I normally like a lot of things in this section but I just didn’t
really find a lot today the only thing I found was this little white painted
tobacco basket I love to decorate with these you could use them in a bunch of
different ways you can either hang them on the wall or you can set stuff in them
on top of a dresser so really versatile and I would like to have a white one to
use on top of like natural finished furniture and this one is $17.99 so I am
getting this woven natural plant holder I’m gonna get a fit all fake today I’ve
wanted one for a long time finally by doing the bullet today I’m
gonna use my 40% off coupon and I also grabbed these little natural beads
because I thought that was a great price and I most excited about this little guy
thank you guys for coming shopping with me today let me know in the comments
where you want to see me go next and if you liked this type of spin on this
video and if you want to see more stuff like this if you have another idea of
how I can put a fun twist on shop with me let me know I’ll be back with another
project next week thanks again for being here you guys and I’ll see you next time

Love HL but I would highly encourage others to go to your local thrift store first! You can find some great staging pieces and throw pillows for a fraction of the price new 🙂

Hobby lobby looks quite an expensive shop, seems like it’s important to have one of their money off coupons. We have a similar shop in the UK called the Range but the products cost a little less, but with no coupons.
Nice vlog Christina, your ideas are brilliant and make such a difference to the look of your furniture.

I would love to see a behind the scenes video of you actually photographing your pieces. Like show what camera you use, what settings you choose, which lens, etc. Thank you for sharing!

Do you buy stuff you intend to use in your own decor and if not, what do you with it all?

A lot of stagers get stuff from the At Home store. Large variety and good prices.

Thanks for taking us shopping….love Hobby Lobby! I have that basket and those beads….they do not ship the trees…my closest HL is an hour and a half each in States with sales tax ( I live in Delaware so no sales tax!) (I shop online….wait for 50% off and free shipping and clean up when things go 66-80% off! I have my own little spot that I sell from….use for extra sales and to decorate furniture….people love it bc of how far stores are…win win😊
