Senior Studio Hospitality | School of Interior Architecture and Design | Academy of Art University

good morning everyone my name is Sheila Nita and this is my team partner good morning my name's Amelia and today we are going to present our final semester project or vana kitchen that was commissioned by our client Toni Riviera so Toni Riviera is a CEO and chairman of prima hospitality crew and as a successful businessman as and restaurateur who owns several restaurants across the country he demands to create a new upscale high-end organic a food store and restaurant that specialize in organic food local and sustainable food and he aims his new hospitality projects to be classy and classic that offers the highest quality product of organic food yet it also approachable and affordable for its main target customers who are the young foodie and hipster crowd in San Francisco neighborhood so as we consider all the needs and requirements from our client we as a design team came up with camouflage that means concealment by some means that alters our obscures obscures the appearance as the main concept of our project so the reason why we choose common flesh as our concept because we open a kitchen want to come in the middle of the community as a brand that these guys ourselves in an upscale luxury look that resembles the urban lifestyle of modern society in bringing the most natural ingredients of our products so unless our other store competitors who tend to bring the traditional look when it comes – bringing the organic food we want to stand out as a brand that giving the different shopping yet a differently at upscale shopping experience to our valued customers so in our design execution the key words of common floods such as hidden layering repetition of pattern will be combined with the upscale yet sustainable materials and design elements together with our main color team which is black and white so this is our packaging ideas for urban kitchen as I mentioned before our main color team is black and white and we are incorporate that come that color team into our packaging and combine it with the urban city landscape design throughout the most of our packaging so by combining both important aspect we create the common flash and let our customers to decide which one is the background or which one is the foreground or our sticky olenski city landscape design so even though we look it in the opposite direction we still we still can see the same urban city landscape shape of in our design and especially for our shopping bag we have the camouflage concept because in the regular outlook it our shopping bag just looks like regular shopping bag but it's actually made out of recycled paper and coated with wax so it's really durable and water-resistant and now I'm going to expand about our brand personality which is organic kitchen so the reason why witches or banner kitchen as our brand name because Urbana means Urbano is urban for Italian words because we want to resemble the urban lifestyle of our modern society in our brand and then we chose Italian word consider our client background that has a lot of Italian cuisine restaurant across the country and we put the word kitchen in the middle of the word Urbano as the camouflage effects that replacing the horizontal stroke of the letters are B and a of the Urbana words and now I'm going to present our furniture finish plan so we as a design team were given the long and narrow floor plan that is located in the channel apartment in Mission Bay San Francisco neighborhood and according to our client needs to have three main area which are cafe market and a prepared food area we divide the long and narrow floor plan into three major sections which are a main landing area at the top of our floor plan which has the main the first main entrance that are facing the channel street and then the second entrance that facing the fourth street and it's facing to a two direction which is the left side to the prepaid food area which is the in the intersection intersection area from the main dining area to the market and into the right side we give our customers options to go to the market area and then we also have the last main entrance over here in the that is okay in the intersection of 4th Street and Long Bridge for a street that facing our main market area and the reason why we have both entrance because we want to give our customers quality or flexibility in getting into our main feature which is main Market area and then now I'm going to talk about our furniture selections and our material selections we incorporate our main color theme which is black and white for true into throughout our design as you can see we choose the wide leather seating and then the black lounge chair and incorporate with a really dark wooden dining table for our restaurant main dining area or restaurant and then which is a really high-end material which is white marble and we try to make our design really sustainable by trying to getting the material from the existing old museum so we can reclaim it and use it in our project so it's giving the high-end look yet it's also sustainable and we use the concrete flooring for our kitchen over here which is a seem semi open kitchen because over here is a prepared food area where the customer can get the food and they can see all the chef's doing the cooking the cleaning cooking the clean cooking well over here it's a little bit hidden so it's for the heavy duty or the catering for another customer and we also have the coffee shop over here with the bar seating area option for our customers we also have wines dealer where our cost can get the highest quality wine and they can have the exclusive wine tasting experience that will that are located here and there's a feature of our partition glass that is made out of smart glass that our customer can take control of it so they can turn on the button and the smart glass itself can change from clear glass into a little bit feed so it made a partition between two space and the last one is our main market area which has the two adi raised a restroom here and the employee office and the floor material is that we choose is the wooden ceramic child because we want to give the high-end loop for our market but also it's really the material itself is really durable and this is easy to maintain and we also are going to incorporate our custom furniture over here that I'm going to chocolate more about later when we talk more detail in our market area and now my partner will explain about the reflected ceiling plan of our project in case you're Anita and now I'm going to talk you through to our ceiling plan where we in general we drop down the ceiling which so we have the suspended ceiling throughout the whole space and where we paint it in black color and we will have another drop ceiling at 14 feet above the finished floor on each entrance like for the first entrance second and the third where we installed a wooden acoustical panel so it's it will help to gather and reduce the noise level of the space and we also have our one of our main feature which is we will explain later for in our main dining area as our focal point so from here we choose the rest we keep the rest of the ceiling to be clean – so it's not compete with each other so for our pendant light which is something that is made from clear glass where we also put we will put this on top of each tabletops so it will also function as a intuitive way to create a separation between the public space and the customers private space when they have a dining in our cafe area we also cooperate this pendant light on each are on each our checkout counter like as you can see on this elevation where we have two pendant lights shining down through the cashier so it's have a duality function as a wayfinding so we will consistently put this a feature in on each checkout area and for the rest we keep it simple for like for the kitchen we have a recessed LED strip light and we have real repeat the same material on our wine cellar and we have track lightening the that is very clean and sleek looking to spot to emphasize and highlight our product and we have suspended LED strip light this goes through on our market area and and this is our exterior storefront that we designed to give a hint for our customer when they'd like to look at it from far we give a fin of our design element which is the city landscape and our name which is Urbano kitchen and as my partner sherry tom has mentioned before or we want to have the duality of our concept that for customer when they see it from far they can choose which background they want to they want to see if they take a look at the white space it will be to be the foreground or vice versa it will still look it will still read as one meaning which is the urban design which is the city landscape of our design elements and moving on to the cafe area so when the first when first the customer enter the space we provide them the selection of your selection for the seating options where we have a banquette sitting on the left side we have a little lounge area by the fireplace we also made a custom table a custom to top seating area on the middle and we offer a flexibility for the customer and our client to rearrange for the two four tops tables that located on the side here so after the customer enters space and they see the seating options they can line up to ordered a their food which is over here and it's going to be a prepared food a prepared food where we are going for Italian food so we will have pasta soups salads sandwiches that is already prepared over here so once they enter they can order food and then pay their foot over here and furthermore after that the after day after they pay their food they can spot another options of seating that we already offering here which is the bar seating area for people who just come here alone and or if they want to enjoy the sunshine we offer the outdoor seating area which is located over here and for the second type of customer that they don't really have a lot of time for their lunch break they only have one hour they can just right away go inside space and go to this which is a pre-packaging foot area and then grab grab it and lined up for a cup for the coffee over here and after it go through go through this entrance and this exit and enjoy their food at their office and this is the perspective of our main dining area this is the entrance where I mentioned before we we're going to have the recess recess suspended ceiling where we also installed the wooden acoustical panel so in here we want to give this transitional space for the customer to to kind of leave everything behind from from from the enter and then give them the wow factor for our main focal main focal point that is located in the middle of the space which is which is our like the sculpture that is made from reclaimed wood and we are we were inspired by the complexity of urban demographic that we combine with our camouflage which that we execute with repetition of pattern layering so each panel of the wood is stacked together with different angle on each height and it's kind of it creates like a very soft and organic shape drop throughout the ceiling and then it goes up and blue boom all the way to the ceiling so from far if it looks something that is soft and has a smooth line but when they take a look closer is actually made from a rigid shape of of the rectangles of the block of wood and on top we will have like the cuff lighting to shine that will really shine and light on for the night time and over here is our is our fireplace where we also incorporate the same design that they see under storefront so which is one of our another design elements that we try to put on our on our design and we on here we try to balance the temperature between the code the code of marbles that's why we cooperate the warm tone of the wood throughout the dining area and moving on to here we have our perspective of the preferred food area where the people can line up in here order their food and pay it and we incorporate we keep we try to keep everything simple we simplify the whole design because we want the customer to focus on their food in this area so we have the same repetition pattern for a cough lightening it the recipe is to simplify shape of the this main feature area but we just put like three layers with cough lighting that shining through throughout the area and over to over to the left the right side we have the coffee shop where we incorporate the same element design of the cedar landscape so we we keep this part simple because we we want them to we don't want them to compete for each design element so this is where we how we came up with a design and for for this area we try to cooperate the language of the hipster where they call where often they call themselves a foodie so we corporate that into our signage where we put our food the kitchen and ready to go for our pre-packaging food area so it's we try to connect with the customer to to get into their brain and make something that is catchy for for them and in here we also for the paneling on the under wall feature over here we also use our concept which is come flush which is hidden we have our hidden door that is connected to the kitchen so it's one of our feature to conceal the door so customer will not be notice of it but it will only use for the employee and over here is one of the main feature which is the wine shop that we that my partner Lee mentioned before that is located in here and the wine lounge so in wine shop we try to to give an intimate and exclusive feeling to the customer where we have our suspended ceiling that we also have the cough lighting to shine through and we have like record red black and the wood color to give a very high-end exclusive feeling to the room and we keep everything simple for the shelving which is just a linear rectangular that continues go through the whole space but we take advantage of our breadth of our packaging which is the black and white of the bottle – – and use it as with a certain type of arrangement to show them from far it will look like a city light so it's going to be a camouflage there aresome well city like Seattle at landscape on the night and now I'm going to pass through the market area to my partner Cheryl Anita okay inter alia now I'm going to explain the market area which is one of the main feature in our project so as I mentioned before our market area has two main entrance which is entrance over here and at the at the back that close to the parking space that where our customers can easily bring all their shopping bag into their cars and then the reason why like we have two main entrance because we want to give the flexibility for our customers that way we also give to checkout area for our customer that way if they enter from this entrance they can pass or walk through all the display of our products such as the fruit and think you over here and then the meat and poultry and a frozen food over here and then they can go to the dry food sections and that is provided over here and then they can pay all their shopping at the checkout area over this area and go to and go outside from these entrance and vice-versa so when they enter this entrance they can walk through all the market area and go outside from these entrance or exit and then for the space planning we divided the space into the monthly display area that the customer will be welcome so for the monthly display area we will change off all our products monthly and it will be featured our highest quality product or spatial products for our customer and it will be shown in these elevations over here and it is the city landscape it's made out of the modular shelfing that create the city landscape view and we have incorporated also the hipster language in our name for our market which is fully market and it's going to be painted all the way black from the from the top to the modular shelving over here because we want to gather our customer attention to their eye level and then we also have the fruit and veggie display area here which is shown in this perspective so we custom-made our shelf in and it is made out of marble because we already have a really dark flooring and we want to attract our customers attention by having the white color as a contrast and also it is made from the reclaim white marble that will be incorporated also for our flooring in the other in the other space of our projects we also painted the ceiling all the way down to the modular shelving over here as I mentioned before our focus is we want the product itself to stand out in the market so we want to gather our customer attention in their eye level and this is the perspective for our dry foot display area that is located over here so our main feature which is the layering of the cuff light theme will be repeated again in here but it's going to be simplified again to just to make a repetition of our design yet we want out the foot itself to stand out and we also have the customers custom with shelving for our dry food for the other products such as pasta it's a the pasta sauce cereal and others and dry foot and we also have the customer hanging shelving that we are going to locate it next to the clear world floor-to-ceiling glass window and if you see in detail it it is the simplification of the urban landscape therefore it's an Aries design in a different level we also have the wall shell thing that in which we take an advantage of the modular shelving that we appeared in this wall and it will be shown in this elevation in which we okay we are going to display or our dry product with all the signage that made out of the lightbox over here so overall what we're trying to present here we want to give – we want to be as a brand that is easily accepted by the writer crowd which is a hipster and we try to blend in with our society and we want to give the customer a different experience when they go inside the space and when they when they already experience the whole space they will remember when whenever they still see the landscape they remember our brain which is Urbano kitchen thank you for attention
