Remodeling My RV Interior Part One – My Plans

howdy this is Ray from love your RV calm and if you followed the blog or YouTube channel for a while no you know we live in this 30 foot Keystone Cougar fifth-wheel full-time and we've been we're hitting about four years now living in there and it's been a great rig but the inside is starting to to show its age a lot of the furniture in there is kind of the original stuff they give you with the RV and and it's starting to get worn-out and dirty so have some plans this summer to renovate a few things and change a few things up so I I thought I'd give you a little before video here and show you my plans so let's go in and check it out okay so here we are inside and there's our beagle Angie and she's one of the reasons we want to change things up in here the cougar came with quite a bit of this fabric type furniture we got a couple recliner rockers at the end here and then this couch or sofa it's one of the ones that flips out you can make it into a bed if you want but frankly we've never used it one of the features I like on the couch is this big drawer down here that pulls out and we like to use that for all kinds of our shoes and stuff for quick storage items it's nice place to store stuff and you can see in here the slide has carpeting so with all that fabric furniture and carpeting in the rig our little beagle likes to deposit quite a bit of hair she has an undercoat that sheds so the hair gets all trapped in that so before we moved into an RV we had a regular house and we had two hardwood floors and leather furniture and that was great with the dog so we kind of like to upgrade stuff in here get rid of all the fabric probably get a lazy boy recliner for there swapped out to find a nice leather type lazyboy the main thing I want to do as far as change things up is this crappy sofa what I'm going to do is totally just chuck it garbage the thing but I'll keep the the wood drawer like that and I'm going to build a kind of a big square box that will hold the drawer and on top we're going to put in kind of a foam mattress with a leather cover and then just get a bunch of pillows kind of make a daybed sort of thing I'm also going with the square box I'm going to put a hinged lid on it so that I can open it up kind of like the the under bed storage here and then I'll have a lot more extra storage under there for blankets and coats and stuff like that so increase the core storage capacity I also want to make it longer this thing is basically maybe like four feet long and I'm six feet so you know I can't really lie on this thing very well and you can see the pillows are starting to a collapse the foam they use in in these cheap furnitures is pretty subpar so looks great for a while but soon you start sitting on everything sags and looks droopy and a super uncomfortable so that's main two things are going to do new chair new couch and then all this carpeting it's starting to get pretty worn down and see on the stairs there especially into the bedroom area so I want to replace that there's a guy at contacting over the internet he sent me some samples what they call vinyl woven flooring it looks pretty cool they use it a lot on boats and yachts and things like that and it's supposed to be kind of a really neat flooring so I'm looking at maybe going with that instead of the carpeting so that'd be easy to clean and the hair won't stick to it the table will probably keep like the the table the chairs one thing I'd like to do in this corner over here is I'm going to get rid of that chair and I want to build myself kind of a computer workstation I'm still kind of finalizing plans on that it'll probably the last thing I do but I'd kind of like to sit sideways take out this little end table here and build myself kind of a little desk computer desk workstation that I can do my blog work on that so yeah so those are my general ideas so I'll be putting up a series of posts and videos as they go probably starting with the sofa modification so stay tuned you

The Beagle doesn't give a rats azz what you do lol.  Our Wildcat is hitting a year old and we use it fairly often and I can tell already that the furniture is going to be absolute junk in no time.  I am a fairly big guy and I put a beating on those recliners.

What is the brand of vinyl flooring you are looking at? We have used Allure vinyl in our house, and are thinking about doing that in our RV.

I was wondering about your remodeling and thoughts of exterior illumination. Have you thought about led strip lighting under your awning or maybe for your entry steps?

I like your ideas on the remodeling ideas you have. I know generally there are certain weight calibrated on the axels. Would you be afraid of adding too much weight or will you be using light wood for your remodel. Every single time i do something myself i wonder how much weight is in my 5th wheel right now ?. Also i need some advise. My 5th wheel is parked in my back yard right now and after i straightened it up to extend my awning the slideout is shaking a little bit during extending but good retracting. Do you ever adjust the level to your slideout with the bolts underneath? Any advise to stop the shaking would be good. Thank you.

Some great ideas!  Looking forward to seeing your improvements, it seems all newer rv's really aren't built very well, I got my own upgrades in store as well.

Hi Ray… nice video series…. looking forward to it.

But I am here for the beagle you know!

Question… why do slides flooring have to be carpeted?

We replaced our chairs and ditched the uncomfortable sofa as well. The biggest problem is finding a chair that will fit in that space when the slide draws in.

Our Keystone Cougar fifth wheel is now four years old and the interior is starting to show some wear.
We live full time in our rig and the original furnishings and carpet is pretty well thrashed.

I've decide this summer to do some renos to the interior. Here is a video where I go over my plans.

This video is Part One – My Plans. I'll continue to add videos and blog posts to this series as I go.
