PICKING HOUSE COLORS. How to color design a house. Decorating and design tutorials.

this Chris you had a whole painter in this video I'm going to talk to you about what is hot and what is not when it comes to actually painting exterior colors on your house you've got a house right behind me here and it's gray and white with a lime green door and that is what is hot right now I'm going to talk a little bit about some colors I'm going to walk you around this gray house with white trim show you a very popular color scheme and talk about the colors that are trending right now in this video also leave you I'm trying to give you like four or five color palettes that you can actually choose through choose from that's actually popular right now some colors that people are using a lot of and the color color trends do actually change not too often and say we probably over the last eight years the color trends were around this area and if you watch Pinterest and stuff if you want to really get a good idea of what's trending just get on Pinterest and you're going to see a lot of the color schemes out there that are people are moving over to but last year it went from a lot of earth-toned browns and greens – now the grays and whites and this year this summer we painted a whole lot of houses grays and whites and not just one grade but a lot of different grades and a lot of different whites but they basically all look the same and then instead of red doors we used to paint over the last eight years or so a lot of red doors now or paint a lot of doors like this some really bright vibrant colors well the first door painted that that was this color I was like that's gonna be crazy but then I did it I liked it and this is the second one we've actually done this is a really cool looking door that was actually a door that was um before we painted it it was a knotty alder stained door and now it's actually lime-green so the trends will typically they don't they don't change your too often you'll typically get a a flow people will move over like right now it's the grays and whites and we'll probably see that for four or five years it could change but the last the last color trends we have they were before that the houses were a lot lighter the body of the houses then we went darker colors and these dark earth tone colors and then like really dark fascia and dark bodies on the houses now we're moving back to the lighter grays with all white trim and you know I don't think that's going to stick for a while actually this the last winter we actually did on the inside of houses too which is really popular now is all pure white pure white trim pure white walls or gray some really light Gray's with white trim so the grades are what's really in and I started getting on Pinterest and looking what's out there in Pinterest and it's just all over the all over the place the greys so once again I'll try to leave you you know several palettes I'm going to put them up here summer pellets upgrades they're really cool and we're actually doing the trim which was different before the previous years the color schemes were a lot more colors on the house typically four to six colors on a house you'd have the fascia one color the window trim door trim another color the body was a color the front door color then you typically have an accent color now what we're seeing with these Gray's it doesn't look really good with a whole lot of colors the Gray's looks a lot better if all the trim that'd be window trim door trim and fascia is all white so I'm not going to take you around in and walk you and hopefully you'll be able to see the the color differences over on the garage door in the architectural style we'll have a lot to do with your colors and what you do with them if the house is just really huge up front you drive up you're going to see a whole lot of one color you want to try to break it up into you know maybe a little bit a shade lighter darker so it's just not all just one color and just looks like this big blob of gray or whatever color you're using this house you drive up you see you see the front doors in between these pillars but the garage doors are kind of a main feature of a house when you drive up and so the garage doors are a little bit a little bit darker than the actual body the stucco is is an accent color itself which is just a shade lighter to darker and it's actually in flat so even if a stucco is flat the body is Sat you're actually going to see a difference a color different sinem even though they're not so we're going to take you walk you around and talk a little bit about the colors here so over here looking at the garage doors and the entrance of the house right here which is the garage area so we've got everything trimmed out the garage doors are trimmed out this is actually just pure white and it's a it's a color just called super white with no tent so the Drudge doors the fascia the window trim is actually stucco which was sprayed and flat white here's some garage doors right here the accents do the black lights and the hard one the garage door were just black which adds a nice little accent so you see we here's the whole house right here and there's three different color Gray's on this house right here to give it a little more depth but then all the trim is nice crisp clean and white and the roof is black leather look right here of the entryway look who's right over here look at the garage the Lighting's not so great you know just the way the Sun sets on this house but hopefully you can get an idea right there so take a look right here a little bit better lighting area so we got some white trim got our stucco lime green door you can with these colors the block accents with Gray's look really good so your lights or your house numbers or anything just that touch of black looks really good again if you want to really get a good idea of what's trending out there what's popular the paint stores don't change their color palettes nearly as often is the Internet does after like pen Chris you're going to see stuff on Pinterest just change rapidly in the styles you will even change just you know from year to year where the paint stores they're going to come up with a color palette the shirt Williams had their fan deck and color palette up for the last six seven years or even more than because it's a lot bigger investment to actually change that whole color palette and their fold outs and all that but go out there check Pinterest to see what's out there trending and to you know see what's up to date at this point in time and when you're deciding what colors you actually are going to paint your house whether it's going to be Gray's or any other color there's some some considerations I always take into account when I'm actually picking the colors that I'm gonna choose and one thing is you always got to choose and look at your roof and choose colors that are going to go with your roof it's most common to have a black roof but if you've got a brown roof or a blue roof you're really going to be limited on your colors you have to take that in consideration if you got one of these these desert tan roofs then you're really limited on the colors you can actually paint your house if you actually want it to flow and look really good another thing is landscaping and when it comes to say like even a front door if you've got some barberries on the side you know of the entrance right here the red doors you in the past looked really good with those landscape accents you want to take in set your landscaping you want to take in a lot up here a lot of the houses have brick is or rock as accents and there's a lot of different colors you know in the stone that you could actually be using to work with the choose your color palette for your house but you don't want to choose colors that are not going to look good with your brick or stone you can paint it but it is it does cost a lot of money and there's a lot of work another consideration you always want to take into account is if you pick out this really cool color scheme and then your next-door neighbor has the exact same thing it's not going to look too good if your next-door neighbor has the exact same color house that you do actually did painted a house this year that was the same exact color as a house next door because the customer didn't care but it's kind of you want your house to look a little bit different you can even use the same color but change it and use it in a different scheme and change things a little bit even just paint the fascia block instead of white but you definitely take that into consideration so the things I'm always looking at when when it comes to color choice I'm gonna be looking at the roof I'm gonna be looking at the landscaping I'm going to be looking at brick and stone accents and then I'm going to be looking at the surrounding neighborhood and especially the two houses the one on the left and right at me and the one across the street when it comes to choosing colors so what's hot and what's not the grays and whites are in in the earth tone tans and greens are out so stay away from do the darker colors on the body or house stay away from those earth tones greens in tans like latte colors and the bronze colors but headway towards those Gray's the light Gray's different shades of light Gray's with I like actually pure white trim but there's actually a lot of whites out there you can use with the Gray's that I'll make it look crisp and clean there you have it there's a little bit about what's hot and what's not and how to go about choosing colors for your house hopefully you've enjoyed this video

Early 80's it was all earth tones with a darker trim, In the 90's it was more Organic warmth with darker trim. In the 00's we went cooler shades or blues and grey with darker trim, and in the '08 to present, it has been light earth tones with a white trim. I guess we will be seeing whites and blues for the bodies, with darker and contrasting trim next.

Who cares what "TRENDS " are ! Stop following stupid people & trying to impress them. Be your own person & paint as you please. Lime green, pink, purple & bright orange together, all look good on a house until your neighbor burns it down !
