Master Bedroom MAKEOVER on a BUDGET

Master Bedroom MAKEOVER on a BUDGET

hello gorgeous welcome back to my
channel we have brought you along on this journey of renovating our townhouse
in Ohio on my Instagram but we haven’t really brought it to YouTube so this is
a first for my channel and I’m really excited because we have a really fun
project that you are going to get to see from beginning to end behind me is our
master bedroom very boring wall I decorated it for
Christmas as you can tell and I left it up because once it comes down it’s gonna
be so boring I wanted to do something to make this wall a statement and that’s
what we’re gonna do today to make this room more interesting we’re going to do
something to this back wall and buy something we’re gonna trim it out so I
like to say that but Matt is a little bit arguing he’s saying it’s
board-and-batten whatever I got the wall I got the inspiration from our last
house in LA we had a trimmed wall and it was from bottom to top and it was
beautiful and you walked in and I immediately went to it and I thought
that is awesome and it turns out it’s not that hard of a DIY so we’re gonna do
it ourselves we teamed up with Hart tools which is available exclusively at
Walmart to do this project and I’m super excited because we’re gonna get our
hands dirty and we’re gonna make this room a lot more interesting and give it
some character naturally I hopped on Pinterest to get some ideas and there’s
different patterns you can do you can do just straight lines you can do squares
more rectangles you can mix it up what we decided to do is a wall of squares
and we were doing something very similar in our home in Nashville which I’m
really excited for you guys to see that as well what we’re gonna do squares and
we’re going to use 1 by 3 planks and we’re going to apply them in a grid
pattern then we’re gonna cock the lines of the wood where it meets the wall and
then we’re going to paint everything and it’s that easy for done it’s been our
experience because I mean we’ve done a lot of house shoppings that when you add
trim work or paneling or Gordon that into a wall it’s just automatically
room where that space feels so much more rich it is fairly easy telescope before
we get started let me show you a couple of tools that you’re going to need very sexy right where you need a level
I’m gonna turn it right way so you can actually read it a hammer these
sometimes I cause damage whoops today I’m not going to a measuring tape can’t
do anything without measuring tape before you get started and even goes to
the store you need to map out your wall and take out some of those math skills
from high school that you probably haven’t touched you need to dust him off
not my finest moment guys but what we did was we went ahead mapped out the
room and hopefully these are all accurate so that we can get the wall
turn out exactly the way we want it let’s get started
I’ve been sent out and it’s snowing and it’s 20 degrees and it’s icy I hope I
make it back that’s cool dad look at that all right we’re in our basement this is
what we’re gonna do some of the more technical parts the job we’re gonna do
some measuring and that’s cutting over here and then we’re going to go up and
put it all together so we’re starting with our side vertical boards and they
are gonna be an eighty nine and a half inches long then go ahead and measure
those out all right hi I’m Angela Lanter I’m here to prevent you from wasting
your time like we did couple of tips that could just really help you out so
you know the old saying measure twice cut once in our case it was measure five
or so times cut one then then it was still wasn’t right first up let’s talk
about the spacing of your boards or your vertical lines on your wall you need to
calculate the sum total width of your boards so the reason that you need to do
that is because you need to subtract that from the length of your wall in
order to determine the correct spacing between the board when I was measured
for putting up my picture of rooms over the bed the first time I didn’t take
into consideration the actual frames themselves and I had all kinds of
spacing issue so I knew going into this we had to do it different also
your walls might be wavy if you live in an older home that’s totally normal
it’s just meaning that things are might not be necessarily symmetrical we did
run into that a little bit okay and then the next tip which this is a pretty
important one before going into buying the pieces and the products to actually
put the wall together we measured everything out multiple times if the
boards home one by three is pretty straightforward it’s a one by three
right no it actually measures smaller than one by three it’s about
three quarters of an inch by two and a half inches and that threw everything
off because we calculated 4 1 by threes so just know that if you are doing the
same thing and you’re using one by threes take that into consideration and
actually measure them before you put them up on the wall to get clean
accurate cuts of our trim we’re going to use the Hart miter saw so I’m gonna pass
the baton on to that you see the little bit more experience I am
it’s a check mark here perfect eighty nine and half inches okay here we go that’s a clean cut that first board up
which is the border now we’re ready to rock and roll
okay so we’re losing light outside because it’s January hashtag Lord’s
winter anyways we’ve got it mapped off up here you’re probably not able to tell
because of the lighting but there’s going to be a vertical piece of wood
beam sauna beam board board right there and then there’s gonna be three more
down this wall we have had to measure it several times the math again not for the
faint of heart so it should be pretty pretty equal the last one might be a
little bit minutely different but not enough that the naked eye would be able
to catch it but overall it’s gonna have the four in between the borders and then
another two here so it should be equal squares all the way all over okay just
to make it a little bit simpler we’re using the level to make sure that the
lines are straight to give us kind of like a tracing of where to line up the
wood for that vertical board I keep one is a beam it’s a board as you can see we already got up our
verticals so it’s time to do the horizontal lines we’ve already mapped
out the lines right here so just to make sure that they’re correct I’m going to
use my heart level and make sure that looks pretty good right there so I think
we can start with our first whores on the line all right
so it’s all done not all done we still have to do the caulking and we have to
the painting but it’s dark outside it’s dinnertime we’re hungry so we’re going
to call it a night for now and we’re going to pick this back up tomorrow and
finish it up but it’s looking good okay so it’s day two and the wall is
completely framed up and all we have to do now is cock it and then paint it so
we’ve generated the cert caulking it’s my first time holding a caulking gun
I’ve got what it’s called I don’t even know only how this goes all right done with the caulking now all
we got to do is slap some paint up and finish this baby Alex game begin so first coat of pain is up there’s
still some edges and whatnot that need to be touched up so Matt feels like we
need to do another coat of paint but honestly it’s looking so good I cannot
wait to show it to you guys then after we get that coat up we’re going to put
the furniture back in place and then we’re going to show you the grand master
bedroom reveal all right you guys ready I’m gonna show
you in the grand reveal how good does this wall look and it was so much easier
than I anticipated I mean I knew that it would be fairly easy but it’s amazing
and it looks so professional like a contractor couldn’t have done it any
better and my husband is so talented that’s the end of the story and I helped
we did it together there’s something super rewarding about a DIY that you
guys that that you do yourself and you look at every day and you’re like yeah
how does that so grand reveal what do you guys think let me know in the
comments below do you guys want to see more of these DIY projects this year and
