actually standing in front of the finished project but I am gonna be painting my bed today and giving you all my thoughts on using Jolie paint so if you are interested in learning all about Jolie paint just keep watching I actually saw an ad for Jolie on my Instagram probably because I'm constantly following Jacques painters and furniture painters so I actually reached out to them and asked if they would be willing to send me a sample to review for my channel so all the products today are being provided by Jolie paint so I'll just read a little bit about the paint Jolie paint is water-based non-toxic and quick drying paint for furniture floors walls and accessories in most cases it adheres to any surface including wood mat plastics stone brick concrete and metal you can find vendors that sell this paint on their website if you're wanting to see it in person but they do sell online which I know is a huge plus for my audience and they're also selling it on Amazon as well I'm gonna be painting the whole bed in Swedish gray then I will be sealing it with their finishing wax and clear so if you've been around my channel before the prep for this paint is very similar to any other furniture paint that I've used my bed is in pretty decent shape so I'm just gonna dust it off if you did have extra grime or fingerprints you would want to use just a really gentle cleaner and then wipe that down with water and let the whole piece dry before you start painting but you don't need to sand you don't need to prime it Jolie has this great book that's called their everyday guide to using their paint it talks about all the finishes you can get with their pant talks about all the products they sent one of these to me but you can also get it online they have a PDF on their website so I'll link that below in the description box today I'm gonna be trying their basic finish the basic finish embodies a classic hand-painted look with a soft texture applied Joely paint loosely leaving subtle brush strokes behind now this is a look I've done before I really enjoy it I know a lot of people really like smooth furniture that kind of looks like it's factory finished and spray-painted but I think the whole point of doing hand painted furniture is being able to tell that it's hand-painted okay to start you're supposed to turn the can upside down and shake definitely want to make sure that your lid is nice and tight and sealed then I'm just gonna open it with my paint tool and then you're supposed to take a paint stick and stir it and make sure getting all the stuff up from the bottom I'm using their small signature brush to paint it's just a natural bristle brush the consistency of this paint is really nice it doesn't really have like a strong odor to it which is nice when you're painting indoors you can thin this paint out with water if you want to but they recommend doing it outside of the can so you don't contaminate it I'm gonna paint out of the can because that's how I roll so I'm just gonna get a little bit of paint on here so for the basic finish I'm just gonna start painting this off in every direction I like to get in these little crevices first says it it approximately covers 150 square feet so I'm sure one can is definitely gonna be enough so I'm going back in and getting some more paint more so far I'm really this is nice so the first coat I'm not that worried about coverage this is dark so I might need like up to three coats but I like the way this is going on feels good it feels good so I'm just making sure that I don't have big globs oh my gosh this is going on really nice Wow I'm enjoying this okay the coverage on this is awesome like a little bit of paint is going a long way um I'm really liking this brush too you know you guys know if you've watched my videos before I really like to paint with my Purdy brush and I have some fancy brushes like this but I've never really liked them but I really like this one and it hasn't shed one little hair in there which is uh really good it's usually brushes shed especially new ones I love the way it's like holding the paint okay so I've zoomed you in a little closer for the second coat you only have to wait with this paint 30 minutes in between coats so I'm gonna go ahead and put my second coat on exactly the same way I put my first coat on in between coats I would close up your paint lid and just stick your brush in a ziplock bag and come back for that second coat so I'm putting this on the exact same way I put the first coat on I'm just kind of painting ever every direction there is some texture but it's not like thick thick so I am spreading the paint out a lot cuz I don't want it too chunky but I do kind of want some of these brush strokes so it looks hand-painted okay I did do a third coat of paint normally I don't think you would have to do that the coverage on this paint is really good but I was painting over a really dark piece and it's a light color so sometimes when you're working with a dark piece of furniture you do have to do three coats and I wanted a lot of coverage I'm not doing a distressed look I wanted all that wood to be hidden so I did do three coats now I'm ready to seal I'm gonna use their finishing wax it's a protective clear coat it's in clear so it's gonna darken my color a little bit but it's not really gonna add anything to it and Jolie provided me with a wax brush so I'm gonna be using their wax brush to apply it so I'm just gonna take my wax brush dip it into the wax this wax has no odor to it which is really nice because some waxes that I worked with are pretty stinky so I've just got a fair amount of wax on there and I'm just gonna start rubbing it in I'm gonna follow the directions on here it says to work in one section approximately two to three square feet at a time apply a thin coat of clear finishing wax onto your painted surface with a wax brush make sure to work the wax into textured brush work and detail areas and then wipe away excess wax with a clean lint-free cloth and just kind of keep working it in sections so it's said to do once you've finished like doing your sections that you should do one sweeping motion another really light layer over top of it when you're done so that's I'm going to do so I love this it doesn't feel sticky at all it went on really smooth I can see where I'm cleaning it on it doesn't really look streaky but light colors kind of hide that streakiness too but I like it I like the way it's looking so I'm gonna go ahead and add backs to the rest of the headboard and they're sort of it the wax will fully cure and harden in two weeks so just to remind you what I started off with here is my bed before and here it is after completing my project with Jolie paint my final thoughts on this paint I really really love it it is a premium paint so the price isn't as great as others that I've tried but the coverage is amazing the brushes I actually think will become my new favorite brushes they don't shed a lot they are a little bit on the expensive side I still like my Purdy brush the wax brush was amazing it definitely shed a little bit more than the paint brush but the wax just went on so easy so smooth I only did one coat of wax they do recommend doing – I just was so anxious to shoot this video and get it up for you guys I think I will go back and do a second coat of wax today just for that extra protection and I actually only use probably like an eighth or like an eighth or fourth of that can of wax and this is a big piece so that kinda is gonna go a long way which is good to know and I used about a half a can of paint which is pretty typical but again I did three coats and I think most of the time you're only gonna have to use two the ease of the wax going on I mean I just have lots of good things to say about it you're gonna think that they're paying me to say this but I just had a really great experience with this paint so overall totally recommend this paint it is a little bit on the higher price side just so you guys know it's a premium paint but I think it lives up to the price don't forget that I'm giving away a whole box of goodies thanks to Jolie you're gonna get the paint both the brushes and the wax I'm gonna run this giveaway through April 1st 2019 so if you are watching this video before then make sure
