Interior Design, Bedroom Designs on 3d Sketch Up

welcome to today's edition of makeover mondays I'm Rebecca Rosen with roastin design studio in San Diego California and I'm here today to tell you that today's winner is Julia from Milano Italy Julia's YouTube name is Korra label she's 18 years old and lives in Milano Italy her view outside of her bedroom window is the Domo which is the ancient Cathedral and in her room what she wants to use her room for is mostly sleeping she also does he'll work in a room because she's still in high school and she likes to hang out with her friends she said it's okay to change the paint color she doesn't have a ton of money to do things with but what I'm going to do is I'm going to have her do a lot of the work herself when it comes to painting and that will make a huge difference in her room without spending a lot of money so let me show you her before photos and then I'll show you the plan for her new room come on she was kind enough to paste the pictures together to give us a panoramic view so when you walk in the room the first thing I noticed is she's got some awesome wood floors big tall doors glass doors with a great view like she told us of the Domo and then over here she has high ceilings I not remember it exactly I think it's like 11 feet tall she's a very short closet door however and that takes her back into her closet this is the desk area and the shelving that Julia's father built for her but she was talking about that she needs to keep and this is what I'm recommending she paints out as we go around the room you'll see here again the closet door and then you'll see there's an interesting pop-out here and then more shelves and then here's another window with a kind of a weird little thing above it I don't really know what that is actually but it needs to stay there I'm sure anyway what she has is her bed a twin bed which is actually a really small twin bed sandwiched between this pop-out in this wall which is I think she did to kind of give herself support space in the room as far as walking space as you can see here she's got lots of space here but it does make for a pretty cozy little corner there and it's more like a daybed sofa then an actual bed so I think she wants that to be changed and make it a little bit I don't know more unified as a cool hip room for a girl her age she also has a cool light here which i think is neat and she can keep that 10 and she has her door over to the side and then the last picture is looking back this direction where she has is interesting again pop out here and a soffit here there's a lot of little different things going on in this room as well as this radiator so we're going to try to camouflage that let me show you what we've come up with for Julia now that you've seen what her before pictures look like so Julia welcome to your new room I'm going to do a section cut right here so you can see inside of Julia's room without the walls all the way all right so when you first walk into Julia's room you're going to notice the color scheme I selected for her was purple gray white and black I felt like the purple would give her the pizzazz that she's looking for and has been wanting but the gray and the white would give some I don't know soothing Ness to at a lot of times people make the mistake of painting their walls all the same color can you imagine a room of all purple walls I can just say I've seen some words like that and some of your submission girls is a little too much so let's do it with style let's do it with class now let me show you here what I've done the bottom part of the built-ins that Julia's father did I painted them in grey but I painted the desk white and all of the shelving is white you'll also notice that I actually added a couple of shelves to the top of this area where Julia's room doesn't actually have these but I believe that can use it the ceiling is high and it looks a little funny to stop early so if her dad made it in the first place I'm sure he can make some more right Julia and while he's added if he's going to add these shelves Julia let's have him make them a little bit deeper so that you can actually put your school books up there because said you have to put your schoolbooks on your desk and it just gets too full you'll notice that I also put bulletin boards on the back of the wall there so that you could keep all the random things that you guys always like to have pictures and postcards and you know things that are important on your desk but not all over the place on this wall here I painted the back of those bookshelves all gray and then on this side to break it up a little and make it interesting a little more hip and young I did really nice wide stripes so let me tell you the size of these stripes these are six inches wide so yes you're going to have to tape off all of these shelves and you'll have to hand paint them and yes it would be a pain in the rear but pain is gain girls it takes a lot of work to make these things look like this it doesn't happen overnight and if you are willing and able and you want it to look like this get out your paintbrush and your tape tape it off and start painting some stripes Julian all right let's call them right here I painted that purple and I actually painted purple behind your dust as well now here's a little important thing let me show you something you guys if let's say this wall over here was where the this door see how short that door is when you can look at it compared to the size of the the height of the ceiling if I painted that wall right there purple and that bookcase purple do you see how it makes that door look ridiculously short it really draws attention to the fact that that is a squatty little tiny door look at the size of the doors looking outside of that gorgeous view by the way of the dome oh the view out there is great the windows are high so I put my window treatments high but this door is so short well the way we take care of that is we paint it white and by painting it white when the door is white it doesn't draw attention to it and it just goes away also this little dropped ceiling here same thing let's imagine I had paint that purple well that's kind of choppy looking don't you think I personally do so instead of having that purple at one point I think it was all purple and I'm sorry I just don't think that's classy I painted that out white so this drop ceiling here is white and basically this whole little alcove here remains white it gives us a place to put our window treatments now notice look at this you guys the window treatments are on the wall not on the window so it makes that window look bigger did you see how it makes it you almost it tricks your eye into thinking that there's windows behind here too which makes you think that's a whole solid wall of windows but it's not so we put that over there now if you need it to be workable for privacy you can put a rod there and those can just be pulled closed at night time in the daytime I'd leave those open and then I painted this whole section here now look take this line right where this soffit is as far as paint lines right here I believe that steps back does it yeah okay so see where that steps back and that's that little saw fit that's where you change Julia to gray the wall turns gray here for this one pop out and then over here I'm going to teach you another little thing that I like to do on this is a radiator I think or what is it it's a heater isn't yeah so instead of making it white can you imagine watch let's just say that we've got a purple wall but that thing stayed white I'm sorry that is not pretty so what I'm going to do like you'll see me do it probably every room that I teach you is make figure flaws things that you don't like go away and the way you do that is you paint them the same color and now it's much less of an issue but even more beyond that if you hang a curtain in this case I have hung a curtain of beads in front of the radiator because it had that little adjustable socket pop out let me show you see how right here that thing naturally goes out well if you take your beads and you attach them right to the ceiling in front of that and there are black or a silver or something gray or something this is actually chain now I know you live in Italy and I have no idea what your resources are there or what things cost there but I would seriously go to you know I don't know places it's all chain even if it's like I don't know what you have so I can't give you suggestions but as the cheapest place you can find chain and literally hang it on nails if you have to it doesn't have looked at fancy but hang it down and cut it at the floor link so it goes from ceiling to floor and for very inexpensive you can make something really really cool and hip in your realm now let me show you something else that I did that curtain spans the wall now watch do you see how there is a pop-out here this is actually in the drywall so there's nothing she can do about that just going to paint that dark gray and then Julia paint purple here but when you get over to this side I want you to take this distance here what I have is one foot and paint that one big grey stripe and what that's going to do is I want purple to be behind the chain and then I want grey on either side to create a border let's say for example that I had not done that I painted this purple do you see how the chain because I don't you can't have it go all the way to the wall because of the door that is if you use it on this pop-out it's kind of kind of detailed the Julie I you live in the room you know what I'm talking about seeing how that pops out there at some point it's going to hit the door so in order to take care of that issue I left this is a gray column so when you're painting paint this purple behind here and gray there so on this wall I've painted the entire walls purple and I've placed on this a removable decal this one happens to be a dandelion and it's about eight feet tall in white and I think the white contrast looks fabulous without purple then as you come around the room you'll see that I did another purple call I'm here between the window and the bookcase and on the other side of the window and then gray on the bottom now I'm going to upload these pictures to Facebook so you get a much better look and you can study them to get your own ideas but right here you'll see that she had another window now here's another trick to trick the eye in making your room feel bigger taller higher and your windows as well let me show you how big that window actually is it's not that tall that window is that tall above that is a I don't know some kind of a channel kind of thing paint that purple and this wall here all the way up paint it purple and then get your window treatment in this case I got a Roman shade and it's kind of mimicking this gray and white and listen Julie I just make it get some fabric and sew it together or hot glue it and make yourself one or go to a store near you again I don't know what you have in Italy try to make something that looks similar to this but cover it down this actually drops it down into the room about almost three feet from the ceiling so it actually makes the room just look so much higher let me show you what this would look like if we didn't have it that way let's put our ceiling on and I'm going to hide this do you see how now the look of that room starting to look more like what her room actually looks like now doesn't it it looks very average when it doesn't have that window treatment up there so moral of the story get yourself in material and make it if you have to or find one that's already made and cut it to fit but right here when this thing stops thinking there we go we're going to put that back on now look how beautiful that looks and how balanced and over on this purple wall you'll notice that I did some Audrey Hepburn which you girls love and above picture all three together it's all about creating and filling the space and the reason I like these is through these three squares really created a very tall skinny piece of art if put together alright now on the bed you'll notice that we kept it very simple since the colors are so dominant and strong we did white bedding with black on the bottom and then if you want to put a pillow a black and white pillow as long as know as a black and white covered bench with white the most different bedding is white and then this right here is just an accent thrill and I liked the color because it kind of took it out of the purple so much and I think that coral looks wonderful with purple and because her floors are this parquet wood floor I thought that the warmth of that kind of brought that back in again so adding baskets and books and accessories clearly Julia I had great space for all of her things that she needs to keep in her room as well as a nice little reading nook over here to the side by the window with a lamp and a place to hang up for jewelry and a place that she can sit and talk to her friends if they're sitting here over here the desk chair so it makes for a nice little ramen and of course we have a busy blood on the floor all right Julia that's kind of a long explanation but that is your round all right well I look forward to seeing you guys next time I hope this has been helpful for you and that these tips that we've taught you are transferable even in your own spaces so come back next week when we select yet another
