Interior Design | Beautiful Homes in California | Reveal #3

I have goosebumps I am so excited because today is the day of the reveal for this project do you know that in six hours our clients are going to arrive here and walk through this front door for the first time and we're going to reveal to them their absolutely amazing completed brand-new home do you absolutely love these benches look at this hand-carved cut walnut benches that we had made we have a pair and they line both sides of this entry to this home I absolutely adore these sconces they go really well with the hanging pendants that we put in the hallway come on let me show you the living room would it sound weird if I keep getting goose bumps now let me just point this out this is a very neutral color palette that we're using in this project because that's the clients taste you know how I love to accessorize right isn't this cute remember when I was in Laguna I bought this I wasn't sure what it was I thought it was like a shell or snail but I loved it this is from Z Gallerie my floral person put these together and here's another box from Matilda's mouth all of these things contemporary are modern and sophisticated mixed with something architectural and something old that's what I'm talking about and bringing warmth into your home so it doesn't look like you went to a model home about a bunch of accessories from the same company right look at this table love love love this table I think this is like 50 inches or something it's really big I want you to look down below here and see that underneath there's a whole nother shelf that we can use for magazines and books but I love the spoke effect that goes underneath and it's a kind of little subtle detail that you wouldn't necessarily see but someday you will and you go wow that's amazing I got to design it do you love the window treatments horizontal stripes in a variation of colors of our color palette these lights that you'll see all the way across this room that light up each individual panel are from LBL lighting and they're really unusual it's the only company I know that makes these so I have them to the wall and then adjust it down and then we can actually adjust those heads right on the window treatments these two sofas we had custom-made Grayson painted this spectacular light house painting for us and then I got some beautiful Restoration Hardware accessories look at this chain this is from Matilda's mouse remember my trip there as well as these amazing cute binoculars so look these are those iron screens I was telling you about the Grayson designed these screens provide a little bit of a room divider kind of feel in this room so we have the living room and the dining room it doesn't close them off you can still see through but it creates a little bit of intimacy which is what I love in every realm it brings all these elements of modern antique contemporary traditional together to make for an absolutely beautiful room I love the fabric I chose for these chairs look at this it's a really amazing medallion print so here's what we did we got the chairs for the captain's that means the wife and the husband right at the end in white and then this subtle not subtle it's an amazing pattern geometric pattern down here and this like wheat color and then I chose that color to do all of the rest of the chairs around the room we actually had a custom-made table with a gorgeous set of legs down here talk about nice legs these legs on this table are so incredible I love them and we had a local craftsmen make that for us so this is a huge dining room table which in a room this size can make it feel like it's you know all furniture but because I chose such a neutral palette it allows us to get the maximum amount of space and function without it feeling cluttered and like overwhelming I actually designed a built-in buffet let me take you around and show you do you love these plates on the way each place setting has two placemats this brown one is almost the color of the table itself but by doing two placemats together it gives me enough space to actually have everything fit on a placemat aren't these gorgeous these are tulips a special kind of tulip something fancy I don't remember what it's called but I love that and that's in resin so as much as that looks real it's not it's fake it'll look that good two months from now all right so we got sconces here and a mirror we've got a remember when Grayson goes it's a whole yeah on that video of us going to look it up well here she is black beauty yourself and this nice hi look how high this is and I'm wearing heels there's a really high buffet with great space and storage for everything and a nice place to put some accessories we start with this big base foundation below and put black beauty right on top let's go into the next room so let me show you how this room turned out the powder room we added an amazing gorgeous sculptural mirror above here and you know what I looked for a long time about which mirror I was going to put above here a couple of reasons one it needs to sit really low because of these handles up here and otherwise a short person will be washing their hands and they won't be able to see of course a short person doesn't need to see because they don't wear makeup I have two pendant lights and this is mercury glass which is pretty cool at different heights and different spacing up above to kind of give us a one-sided lighting and then of course we do have a can light right above as well now here's an interesting fact in the original model this wall was supposed to go like this and be just your typical bathroom toilet room sake but there was a wine cabinet on the other side of this and our clients don't drink so they said we don't need a wine closet so we closed it in and because I was here so early with the blueprints I was able to make those kinds of changes so we made the space available in the powder room which gave us great place to put storage for extra toilet paper reading materials I know whatever you want to do in the bathroom it's in there someone actually asked me she said we do want to see what's over the toilet because we all have toilets and don't know what to do with them well that's kind of like a broad statement because yeah we all have toilets but we all have different backs behind your toilets but I'll show you what I did here let's take a look so above this toilet since it's a nine foot tall room I was able to stack three pieces of art if you saw the Laguna acessory hall video you'll remember at the very end I was saying what is this designed by Vogt and this is what I was talking about these three pieces actually the back fabric is in a different color so these two or in kind of a seafoam green and this one is neutral once it gets in the room I don't think it's anything that catches your eye and because I did to a pair on either side of a single I think we got away with it but it does fill on that space nicely so the person using the toilet also gets a room that's completely designed do you remember me showing you what amazing tile we used for the backsplash look at this pot filler I don't even know if I pointed that out to you before that's pretty cool you get hot water instantly for your spaghetti and stuff like that but here's what I did remember how I did these corbels and the dark I felt like when I stood back and looked at this wall I wanted to pull the lightness out so what I did was I got two really cool well actually four from Anthropologie these really cool like you know pots and I put fake silk herbs and them so it looks kind of kitchen II but it also brings this color palette over to the side and just widens this space you're also going to notice that above all of these cabinets now we have white milk glass or ivory milk glass pottery all the way around so it kind of gives a light color to this very dark otherwise dark room some people have left comments on on video number one saying it's so dark and I think give me a minute so here are dual islands again this leather finish I tell you what after living here for three weeks putting this house in this is the countertop I would use and I'll tell you why it covers a multitude of sins I'm not getting you it does I mean you can have style you have to look at it in the light just right to make sure there's something on it because it absolutely covers everything perfect for a family I've been shopping for accessories for this house for about a year now so here's the deal you got all this stuff and I take pictures of everything so I remember but when you bring it all together you're like it's Christmas you're opening up all these things and putting it together and I found all these apothecary jars that I bought plus this really neat plant remember this in my antiques hall these are so fun in a kitchen because then you can put in we could put in anything you want some people might put something healthier in these I put in candy because I thought well that's really fun and they have two kids so why not you know when you do your homework you deserve a treat actually I could use a treat right / – you're right we have her cookbook collection and over here to your left this is the area I was telling you about we did the landscaping books here and then these are the plates that can be dropped because I was thinking if I was six years old it would be my job to set the table well that's what's going to happen and she can easily get to this area and set the table the plates can look like China but they are unbreakable I'll wash that plate later don't you worry now up on this table I picked a very neutral placemat and some white plates so they're just an off-white and these are really cool votives so these votive candles you light and then this glass just kind of like it's a sparkly look put some cute topiary trees that I had made in the center and here are those glass globes I was telling you about that I matched on the sconces is this like a cool light fixture for a kitchen love it love it sometimes when you need an area rug it's hard to pick something or find something that's going to go with your look so I went to cold carpets and I picked out a carpet that I thought the color palette was great and this is just wall-to-wall carpet we had it cut and made to our size and bound with a six inch binding of the gray color that we've used now look at these chairs remember I told you about ecat fabric this is what it is not pretty but I kept the espresso legs here so you can mix and match but just keep your color palette similar okay here is the game table and the chairs I was telling you about now we have the chairs made but we bought the game table up at the Laguna Design Center and this is a great Scrabble board game that I picked up at Restoration Hardware look at this this is metal with these like Brad's whatever those are big screws and then it goes into wood and then down here look at this it's like a turntable thing you can actually make this table higher or lower it's up to you and then these legs even like change so it changes the height of the table it is one stinkin heavy table Grayson could not pick it up and put it on his back like he does most things like you know pianos and cars and stuff so it's very heavy table the backdrop to that what sets the perfect stage this amazing fireplace remember when I showed you this oh my gosh totally love this but look what pulls it together look at these paintings aren't these amazing grace and did this and I think this one's really really neat this gives us the ability to take this very neutral color palette and start to introduce some other colors the colors I chose were C colors amazing look at this cool piece of furniture it's actually three separate pieces but you know what it does it houses some extra games because hello game room but it also this whole scenario here it kind of created a little bit of an invisible unspoken room divider screen that's very creative and it's made out of furniture and lighting look at this I originally wanted to put lamps here but I couldn't so we hung these cool pendant lights and they've got the Edison bulb love the Edison bulb look remember this this is one of the pieces I bought and showed in the lagoon accessory Hall it creates this little bit of a fan but kind of like your eye goes through it but it kind of stops your eye at the same time it keeps this room from looking long and skinny although I would like to be long and skinny wouldn't you this is so cute I actually made this it's my little thing it's a shell but I melted wax stuck a wick in there I just basically I took a votive candle and I melted it down and I filled it in and when we burn that it is a cutest thing to see a shell with light coming from the center of it how cute is that I bought one large sofa here let me take you around and show you one large sofa and I'm saying this thing is large it's probably at least 9 feet long and then four chairs one two three four but look at the detail it's got these great arms on the side and it's got buttons and it has nail heads and it even has nail heads over on the side here look at this that's some awesome detail on furniture we had these made these are what I'm going to use for coffee tables and they pull apart and you're going to see I do this kind of a lot when I have big family rooms because you know a small coffee table just doesn't look scaled right the reason these rooms look so amazing is because we have this stuff made to be the right size and it makes a huge difference and then I just did this really casual grouping for accessorizing just some cool books some of these I picked up on my Mathilda's mouse this box this is one of the glass pieces I bought at Matilda's remember this in my video now look I made NEVEC and a lot of it NIC cute so this is how I accessorize the bookcase more special pieces some coral even some I think this is a geode I think it would make a nice bracelet actually I have a necklace similar to this and then across the top Grayson's painting here see this that is one of those vases that I just made into a candle and this is a piece that the client already on because of course whatever they have we want to intermix their things with the things that they had with the new things and there's a lot of their stuff mixed in here too I just haven't pointed it out why don't you follow me into the guest room one of our final rooms I want to show you is the guest room and in this room we actually use the clients existing furniture this happened to be the only piece of furniture that came from their old house guess what when the nightstands arrived and the bed we found that this went across this bar this nightstand was too wide so Oscar came and he took it apart and he made it smaller so it would fit in this room again another great reason to have custom builders on your side this is a rustier wood than we've used anywhere else in the house so I wanted to bring that color into this gray and neutral color palette so I found this gorgeous bedding it's actually wasn't betting it was just fabric it's a linen that's embroidered over here another painting by Grayson again brought in all of our oranges and rust colors from the furniture well let me show you this desk this is cool this is a fold up and it has the drawers underneath so this can be a really skinny desk or it can be pulled out and made into a large one it even has another flap over here to make it even wider so that's cool the window treatments are a combination of bronze and the green color that you see here in my bedding you see how that pulls together so we had these window treatments made and then Louise fashioned a rod and rings taken from this sliding barn door design so he kind of took the design and he made the same type of thing so that the two could be married and come together in the corner perfectly I just think it turned out so great and of course this barn door hello is that not the coolest thing this takes us on into the bathroom where we did some simple accessorizing with towels some artwork and the back here at this great vanity I use some simple home goods and/or yeah this is home goods you know soap and lotion type holders and then here we have this built in that has all these fun little colored glass and clear glass pieces just to kind of give a little bit creation in the bathroom indoor/outdoor living is one of the things that we in Southern California pride ourselves on we love to bring the outside in and the inside out here and our interior courtyard it's almost like the outside itself but we are completely surrounded by walls however the roof is completely blown off this looks like a window doesn't it now it's a mirror it's a mirror that I bought through Pottery Barn and it's actually made for outdoor living underneath we have a Potter's table fresh flowers and a place where they could actually pot their own herbs and use them for cooking so we go around the corner I got some great vines so they're going to just bloom with this orange flower I don't think it's year-round but when it's not Orange it'll be green and it's going to grow up the wall I think it's going to look amazing we also bought these chairs now these chairs are really cool because look they fold up like this almost completely flat so we bought six of these and I think there were like 29 dollars a piece they were such a good price for putting pass it up and that's kind of what started the look for this house now everything in the house is kind of great do you know what teak does when it gets aged it turns gray so I'm thinking this is even going to look better a year from now a lot of you have let me know that you enjoy the detail that I'm taking you through on these videos but it makes for a long video so guess what if you want to see how floor number 2 turned out you're going to have to come back for the next edition from this series of the project we're doing luxury home in Southern California I'll see you guys next time upstairs

Gosh there are just too many things. It's visual diarrhoea. How does one even de-stress and find visual harmony in there. Its more like a furniture store and less a home. A silent prayer to the housekeepers in charge to dust off all that. Meh overrated.

Yes, we need a lot of detailed explanation when talking about accessorizing because it's a finishing touch in every room that most of us know when it's just plain wrong but very difficult to articulate what makes it perfect when it is.
