How to Make Yogurt at Home (American Style Yogurt)

I'll come everybody this is a tutorial to show you how to make homemade fresh yogurt you need several things before you get started you need a stainless steel pot milk some stock yogurt a spatula we prefer one that has a flat bottom and holds a thermometer and a spoon so to start pour the milk into the stainless steel pot and put it on the stove on high heat you want to stir it constantly while it's on the stove to prevent burning at the bottom until it comes to a boil for a gallon of milk it takes approximately 20 minutes for to come to a boil so you want to monitor carefully and stir to prevent the burning as well as preventing boil over milk boils over really quickly so you want to watch it the entire 20 minutes or however long it takes for it to boil when the melts does boil you want to remove it from the heat or as you can see here for thicker yogurt we we like to have stickier yogurt as opposed to more watery so for a thicker yogurt you can put it on low after it boils and let it boil for a few extra minutes to allow some of the water to evaporate and now give you little bit thicker yogurt so once you've removed the the pot from the stove you want to put her in a cold water bath and we tend to use to sink you can sanitize it and fill it really easily it's a very convenient thing to use as a water bath and when you put it in the water bath stir it continue to stir it because that ensures that it cools uniformly and you want to check the temperature periodically and wait for it to reach 115 degrees Fahrenheit it's pretty important that you that you stir it and that you check the temperature it shouldn't cool too much so for a gallon of milk it takes about approximately three to seven minutes – cool you want to preheat the oven to about 110 degrees Fahrenheit but turn it off before you put the yogurt and you don't want the oven on when you put the yogurt in you just kind of want to preheat it to make sure that the area is warm where the yogurt is going to be add 2 to 3 tablespoons of yogurt this can be yogurt that you have purchased from the store or yogurt that you have previously made all yogurt has the best area necessary to make more yogurt then mix the yogurt into the milk after you have turned off the oven you want to put the yogurt in the oven for about 5 to 6 hours usually I make the over in the morning and checkout it in the afternoon to make sure that it's done and thick before putting it in the fridge and as you can see Sears should be completely yogurt consistency after the 5 to 6 hours if not leave it in there longer so once you have put the yogurt in the fridge and it has cooled you can serve it either plain or with strawberry jelly and granola or whatever your favorite toppings are and we find that freshly made yogurt lasts for about 1 to 2 weeks in the fridge so you can keep it for you know about 2 weeks before it goes bad I hope you've enjoyed this and let us know if you have any questions

I love that you gave times for each step. That helped me be more patient 🙂 I did a small batch yesterday and it was so good I woke and started my milk straight away. Thanks for a simple, yet detailed video.
