How To Make Marzipan Candy & Cake Decorations : Marzipan Rose Dessert Recipe

Hi I’m Rachel Dayan for Expert Village. Now
I’m going to show you how to make small roses to decorate a cake. I took a piece of red
marzipan, I put in a baking sheet, I’m going to cover it with another piece of baking sheet
because marzipan is sticky and we don’t want the rolling pan to stick to the marzipan.
Take a rolling pan and just roll it down, it should be nice and thin. Now I’m going
to take a little cup and make circles with it, 3 little circles. Take those 3 little circles and put it one
on top of the other and we are going to start rolling our first one on the side. We are
going to roll them all together. We are going to take a knife and cut it in the middle it
is going to make use to roses 1 and 2. For the leaves you could either take you can either
make them from marzipan or I use mint leaves and put them on one side of the rose. There
you go.

Eh. It fills a niche. Good for those of us who occasionally have to make a cake and don't want to make a career out of making fondant roses.

having done this a lot of times during my cook-education in a restaurant, i can say that she overcomplicated it a bit, but looks like a pretty good trick for everyone at home, so nice done!
they don't look "perfect", but hey at least your guests will know you made them yourself and didn't buy them!!!

she did not do a neat job with the rose's but she did give us a nifty idea of how to make a rose especially if some 1 wants to make it without having to buy the $ 20 flower making set

You mean how to make marzipan? Marzipan is made of extremely fine ground almonds. You can find the recipe or even tubes of marzipan at candy and chef specialty stores. You will have to dye it the color you desire yourself, and you shouldn't use a food coloring that is gel based. 🙂

@kaara8722 you certainly can use sugar paste, i prefer to use sugar 'florist' paste to make flowers, it drys super hard and makes for beautiful roses as you can roll it so thin its see through 🙂

mmm you can make those roses much easyer and beautifuller and if the marzipan sticks to much use some sugar powder NOT FLOWER !!!and the idea to use the shot glass is good but its not easy if the marzipan sticks to much if the roses are 2 cm they can brake and the results are not pretty xxx

@SUPERDOOPERTUBER easy recipe 500g (16 oz) sifted icing sugar (confectioner's sugar)
    450g ( 1lb) ground almonds
    2 egg whites
1/2 tsp vanilla flavoring marzipan book
    1 tsp lemon juice

Sift the icing sugar in a bowl with the ground almonds. Add the remaining ingredients and mix to make a stiff paste. Knead until smooth. (As a substitute to raw eggs it is possible to use a little water mixed with brandy to bind the paste) good luck

Hi there. Sorry for being negative, but your marzipan is way too thick. I personally don't think the look very nice as roses don't have tears in their leaves and they certainly aren't this thick and chunky. Sorry, but in my opinion, I wouldn't call myself expert if you are producing this.
