Home repair electrolux affinity washer door lock replacement by froggy

hi guys and gals froggy here I'm going to show you I hope if this goes well how to replace this door latch door a lock door interface switch and I looked at a few other videos online and they all seemed to skip past the part of removing this door gasket or they give it a little bit of a brief mention and they go right into plugging and unplugging the switch well from my point of view this is the easy part getting the door gasket off is the hard part and there is a there you can see it a spring and the wire loop that's a rusty end of the wire loop that goes around everything so you have to apparently have to open that up this way open it a little bit and that to start to get it to come off and then you can peel this away just only have to peel it off like at 10 to 12 inches to get at it so I'm going to need two hands I'm going to try to thread that loop who is that loop there and that loop there spread them apart maybe I'll be able to do it with these needlenose pliers and get that metal retaining ring off and then I can go for this okay need two ends now let's show you what I did is I just hooked one end of it with one half of the pliers and I've got my finger under it now and I think I'm going to be able to get it that way you don't have to try to spread it apart just grab one end and start peeling it okay okay so I can figure this out I'm going to show you the secret here and I looked at maybe six or eight video online nobody showed you this alright so when you pull on this particular model it's a Frigidaire and I think it's called infinity yeah Oh up in it okay and I'll actually give you the model number right there okay there's your model number you don't just pull this door gasket they caught a bellows order gasket you don't can't just pull it away if you try just pulling it what you're actually doing is pulling up against this metal lip here oh hi yeah right nobody tells you that so what you're going to do is pull up and away like that hump it away up and away and get it off of there so there's your tip now I think I can get out that door switch I need two hands alrighty back to this then now you know the secret alright now we can get in there probably notice headlamp on I love this headlamp there see there's the switch gonna be easy peasy I'll get a Phillips head get those two out to him okay there's your original one this suit this washer was built in 2006 so sixteen seventeen eighteen nineteen thirteen years old this is the Chinese online replacement and now I mean I'd rather have this but it's probably three or four times the price this was like a twenty dollar part and if it breaks in a year or two or three now I know how to fix it again so sometimes you have to wait it out in your head whether a 13 year old washer needs a $60 $80 part or a $20.00 part so something else might break on it that's too expensive to fix or doesn't make sense and then I just new washer these washers by the way are probably over you know eight hundred thousand dollars for these washers now so we just got three wire plugs to undo and put them back on the new one and just screw back in okay so I plug those three in the top to have like a little latch and the bottom one doesn't so go figure that out anyway they didn't really snap in as nice as they probably would on an OEM but I think they got in there good enough here you can see that's the little latch or capture or anti pull out right there those holes right there and the bottom one doesn't have it so now we got to get our gasket back on and our spring retainer back on and I'm trying to make sure you've got the gasket over the lip and just shove on it with your hand make sure that it's all nice and evening and it feels like the other side that you didn't remove what I'm actually going to do with this retainer is instead of having a spring down at the bottom it doesn't really matter where the spring is and as you can see there's been sent a little bit of leakage and a little bit of corrosion on the spring so I'm just going to rotate it like probably up to there and it will actually be easier for me to access for the final little stretch right there instead of having to be down on my knees do it down there see they got this little extra flap here and that was probably to hide the spring now you can see the spring but I do not believe it really matters so I like it this way I'm going to put that way one other thing I'm going to do is try to clean and actually rough up this gasket a little bit because it's been leaking right there and I think it's just because it's got a little glazy shiny finish to it if i run my hand over it run my finger over no no it doesn't feel too much different but I'm going to give this a really good clean because I've been getting a small drip down here onto the floor and maybe I can fix that too actually first I want to try this so let's give it to throw a couple towels in there and try it okay I put it on a spin only cycle apparently spin only cycle means put some water in there plus spin it so anyway it's good scouting down I had like about eighteen or twenty minutes to start and it filled and drained a couple times and it's it's moving every so often these type washers do have like a lot of pauses that happen they just pause and they let the clothes soak I guess or something like that but anyway frog is going to call this fixed give me a thumbs up or like if this helps you out subscribe to my channel if you want more from froggy click on the bell if you want notifications and be safe have fun I got to get back on my Corvette and fix that I got a race on Sunday see you bye bye
