Home Maintenance: Cleaning The Dryer Lint Tube

hi and welcome to the Big Bear homestead this week in home maintenance we're going to be showing you how to clean your dryer exhaust okay so what is your dryer exhaust well essentially when your dryer is working and is pushing the hot air through the barrel that air goes through the lint filter which we all know that's the thing you pull out and clean off but then it goes it exits out to the back of the dryer and out through this hose ultimately coming out of your house now like I said everybody knows you clean out your lint filter you know after each load well a lot of people don't know is that this exhaust also needs to be cleaned your lint tray can't catch a hundred percent of all the lint and dust that comes through your dryer so this tube also needs to be cleaned because it will catch any lint that does make it through now a lot of it yes will exit out through the house but you gotta remember you're pushing moist air through here so a lot of that lint can get caught in those walls and after you know a good time can bog up your hose and that can cause your dryer to not run very efficiently it takes twice as long for loads to get done it can pose a fire hazard so something you really want to stay on top of this isn't something that has to be done every week or even every month maybe just every other month every quarter you know something like that just come in stay on top of it and you'll be fine so let's go ahead and show you how it's clean okay so there's a ton of different ways to clean this thing out I've seen people will just run their hand up there with a rag and cleaned up some people use a duster you know to each their own for me personally I found the most effective way to clean this exhaust out is to just use a shop vac with a one of those nice long flexi hoses you can just get up in there it'll been with the curves in the pipe and just overall does a really good job so we're going to get set up and it will be right back to start cleaning out ok so we've got dryer set up plugged in toes ready to go now one thing to keep in mind when you go in and do this you don't want to force it you don't want to punch any holes on the side of your tubing you don't want to knock anything loose this is one of those times where you really want to just finesse it in and also when you're going in continue to twist the pipe or the hose because it will help it more easily bend with the curves in your piping so let's get to it like I said you just want a nice easy push just twist it and continue to bend it and gently push it in there okay I've gotten about as far as I'm going to get and you just ease your way back and just make sure to hit those side walls on your way out and that's it I mean it's a real quick easy job I mean it took me longer to explain why you should do it and how you should do it than it does to actually do the job but that'll save you money in the long run with the efficiency of your dryer speaking of your dryers a lot of them the newer models now have a sensor that will warn you when it's getting clogged up but then your dryer washer is shut down it won't work and so you clean it so it's why I said really important to stay on top of this not something you have to do all the time just every now and again when you think about it run out there vacuum it out and it's done real easy so I hope this has helped you guys out do you have any questions or comments put it in the comments below and we'll try you back to them and that's it so thank you for coming by the Big Bear homestead and like always have a nice day you
