DOLLAR TREE DIY CUBE SHELF

[Applause] hello everyone I hope you're all doing well so I took you on a shop with me at Dollar Tree and I found these beautiful bamboo cutting boards and as soon as I saw them I thought oh my goodness they would make beautiful cubes now they're not very large so you're getting you know I will measure it out in the video and see how big each cube is but I had this idea that I wanted like a wall cube kind of on the side of my craft oh my goodness it's so hard to explain anyways I will share with you in the video exactly what I'm referring to I wanted it on the ends on the one side of kind of pens and pencils and all those things that go stored away in my craft room on display but I had this space on the side wall that I was like well should I put a picture frame or some sort of wall art and nothing was really speaking to me so then I thought well why not use these little cutting boards and turn them into a cute wall unit and then put my little decor pieces from the Dollar Tree that you know the little trinkets that we buy here and there and put them on display because those things make us happy so anyways I hope you guys enjoyed this DIY I do look forward to sharing with you the process I think I might even buy another set of bamboo boards and make a pink wall unit from my daughter's room or something fun you guys can turn this into farmhouse definitely distress the wood if you want you can paint it with grays and whites and and just kind of give it a more of a distressed look and use sandpaper as well to create that especially black sandpaper does a really nice job distressing naturally and also you can hang it vertically the way I have it or you can hang it horizontally which is super cool because then you have more of like a shelving unit and then like your little storage cubes kind of like you see those normal storage cubes floating around in Ikea and you tell next time I hope you guys enjoy this video and I do look forward to seeing what you guys are creating so be sure to tag me on instagram or post on facebook or even send me a personal message i do read those as well until next time everyone enjoy you will need sixteen of the bamboo cutting boards from the of course you can use wood from the hardware store as well but I did find these at the Dollar Tree and this is how I've created this cube shelf bamboo color doesn't match my decor so I'm giving it a nice even coat of white acrylic paint from the Dollar Tree as well and you can sandpaper the board if you'd like to make sure the paint will hear nicely to the actual cutting board I've applied two coats so this is my first coat I'm applying to the top and the actual sides I want to completely cover the board in white paint I'm going to apply a second coat to make it a really nice even color so I worked on one side and I allowed the planks to dry overnight are the boards to dry overnight and then I did the second side of the board the following day so once it was completely dry you're able to flip it now I'm working on the foam sheets from the Dollar Tree so I wanted to make sure the paint was obviously not sticking to the foam and then lifting away from the bamboo board so this is why I worked on this project over a couple days and especially with these 6000 everything takes some time to cure so here I am going to apply two coats as well for to the backside of these bamboo boards and now what you can do once those are dry as well I took another 12 hours or so to let it cure I'm taking east 6000 and I'm running a nice even bead along the two sides of the rectangular board and I'm going to join these now with the other two boards on the inner part of this rectangle so as you can see here you want to hold it in place until the e6000 starts to get sticky it does bond rather quickly it gives it about 10 minutes and it's it you don't have to hold it for more than a minute or so and in about ten minutes you'll see that it's pretty solid and then you want to wait at least 24 to 72 hours for it to cure before you're hanging this on a wall because all the pieces do need to cure and you 6000 works really nicely with wood so now I'm running again another another 2 even beads here of e6000 and I'm going to press that into the two inner panels and this creates a cube so once one cube is done I need four cubes and I don't want to touch them for another 24 hours so again I'm just leaving this over the day letting it dry and then I'm able to move on to the next steps I'm going to bring the four cubes together so once you're happy with your paint coats and all four of your cubes are done just let them sit like this overnight again allow them to cure before moving them around so now in the morning you're able to pick them up just like this you can move them around shake them around they're nice and solid and ready for the next step so you want to lay out your boxes or your cubes out on a flat surface and then what you're going to do is run another bead of e6000 glue on to the outer panels here of those rectangles and then you're going to bring one other cube in line and make sure that your boards are completely nice and straight and connecting with the e6000 to the other cube so now what's happening is you have one cube going one way and another in out and out kind of like a zigzag and so once these two are nice and lined up you want to move on to the very last one that needs to be connected and then that's it if you want to make this longer you can go ahead and make more cubes you can make six you can make eight cubes and then you can lay it on its side or again vertically or horizontally however you prefer for your wall space of course and I'm just gluing my last box up to the top and then I want to share with you how i mount it and so I allowed the e6000 to cure the second part here for another 24 hours before mounting it and I am going to share with you how I use nails to just put this into the wall again I'm not putting super heavy things on this however please if you are going to maybe nail things and together I hope you guys love this DIY I am so very excited that I was able to create this on a super friendly budget and use this in my craft room I absolutely love it I hope you guys do too I look forward to seeing what you guys are doing out there until next time everyone thank you so much for watching bye for now

I made this last week and it’s not as easy as it looks in video!

The boards are not level and it takes a long time for E600 to be dry enough to let go of the cutting boards.

You’re better off getting wood from hardware store!
