DIY Furniture Makeover | How to Decoupage With Fabric

Hello I’m Jennifer and in this video I’m
going to show you a beautiful furniture makeover that I did using embroidered
fabric and some Mod Podge. So stay tuned. So we needed a certain sized piece of
furniture in our bedroom and I found one but it wasn’t the look I was wanting. So,
I thought, okay I’m gonna give it a furniture makeover and the first thing I
did was I sanded the top and stained it and then coated it. Then, I painted the
rest of the furniture kind of a creamy off-white but it still was kind of bland
and I kind of have a French Country look going in the bedroom. So I thought you
know what if you look at the doors there’s an inset in them. I thought that
would be a beautiful place to put some fabric. Let me show you the fabric I
chose. I chose an embroidered fabric, just stunning and it’s going to mimic the
look as if this furniture had been hand painted. Now, I’ve got my fabric cut out, I’m ready
to add it to the furniture and I’m going to apply the Mod Podge with a brush.
It just kind of makes it easier. So, I’m going to use just a little bit and I’m
going to start at the top and I’m gonna do a little bit of fabric
at a time because I want to make sure it gets on there super smooth. So, just keep adding the Mod Podge all the
way down just a little bit at a time so it helps keep your fabric smooth and
then we’re going to move on to the next step. Now that you have the fabric on,
it’s time to coat the front of the fabric with the Mod Podge. The Mod Podge has dried and they do
make a product that actually you put over top that seals it it. If I had
fabric on top of a piece of furniture, I would seal it but because it’s on the
edge and I don’t want anything that makes it look shiny because I want
people to think this has been hand-painted, I’m done. This is the knob
that came on the piece of furniture but this is the one I found at Hobby Lobby. So, just painting this furniture, adding
fabric and new doorknobs made this such a beautiful custom piece. It looks way
more expensive than it was. Be sure to think outside the box. Shop Craigslist,
shop Facebook marketplace, find an old piece of furniture and give it a
furniture makeover. Hey guys, I wanted to take a second to share something with
you a little bit personal. My oldest son at the age of 15 was
diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He is now married with children and has started
his own YouTube channel all about dealing with diabetes. His latest video
has gone viral. It is a very humorous perspective on
dealing with diabetes and the video is called if Blood Sugar Could Talk. I would
absolutely love it if you guys could watch it and share, thank you. Thank you
so much for watching. Be sure to hang out with me on Instagram I’m @jenniferdecorates. It’s really easy to find. Subscribe to my channel because I’m
gonna have more videos coming out later. Have a wonderful day!

What exactly does Modge Podge do? It seems to act as a glue and a sealer.
