COMET – the tiny house on wheels – OffBeat Spaces video

MARIAH: Hi. My name is Mariah, and
this is my tiny house on wheels, the CEMET. Come on in. [MUSIC PLAYING] MARIAH: So here we are in the
CEMET, a cost-efficient off-grid mobile eco trailer. This is my tiny house
on wheels. I live in it full-time. And I travel with it quite often
from place to place that I’m going to be living for a
couple weeks, doing info sessions, teaching workshops,
just showing people that they can live in a different way. This is how one person
is doing it. So a lot of the stuff you see
in the CEMET is either recycled materials original
to the trailer itself. Where I couldn’t find recycled
stuff, I used sustainably produced products and
building materials. All of the framing had been
destroyed by carpenter ants. And even though the interior and
exterior skins looked OK from the outside, it was
pretty much destroyed underneath the first
layer or so. My kitchen is fully
functional. In order to keep my electric
load down for the PV system, I opted for a hand pump faucet. It’s also traditional to
the 1960s trailers. It’s called a rocket pump. So over here, we have
the dining area. We have this table. It actually folds down, and then
this whole area becomes a bed, you know, if you need
a guest bed or something. So what I’m sitting on right now
looks like a couch, but it is also my bed at night. During the day, it functions
as couch. I can sit down, read books,
watch movies. When I’m not using it, or I
just want more space for relaxing, I can have it out as
a bed, and two people can sleep here. And then during the day,
it’s my little office. I have my mirror here. I have storage for clothes. All of these shelves move
around up and down. They can be out of the
way, and I can hang a full-size dress. Otherwise, it’s usually folded
clothing storage and hooks everywhere for hanging jackets
and sweaters up. This is my bathroom, just
a composting toilet. You can use the liquids to
fertilize plants without composting, and then the solids
can be composted and then used as soil. You don’t have to live in
a trailer to do that. You can do that in your house
or your apartment. In addition to all that, I’ll
have 555 watts of solar power powering this thing. It really does become
this really intense expression of yourself. And I think that that’s what’s
so interesting about small spaces, tiny houses,
custom-built houses and spaces that people live in, is it’s
this expression of the person’s personality in an
architectural and design form. ERIKA STORM WASSER: Love

We lived in a camper that size for a year. It works if you don't own much, and campers in the midwest are very inexpensive to buy. Adding on solar, etc would add to the cost but cheaper than renting anywhere! She did a nice job making it home, looks sweet!

Just curious, where do you shower? What property do you keep it on? We used to have a 31 ft. travel trailer, but sold it for the boat experience. Now we want to get a truck camper and travel around…tfs !

Be very, very aware of ''FIRE.'' Avoid open flames anywhere ………. Also, be very, very aware of ''FUMES.'' It's so easy to seal your abode to a point that no air gets into or out of your tiny space and some gases can kill, like methane from the toilet or carbon monoxide from a car or truck. Gas of any kind in a small space is asking for big trouble. LIVE, LOVE, LEARN AND LAUGH

WARNING… Be aware that common household ammonia and common household bleach when simply mixed together will produce gas fumes that will ruin your day. So don't pour them both into the toilet or sink or a bowel together.

I have a nice litle avion my only complaint about it is it has no recliner. If you have no recliner the space is useless IMHO. I will wreck out something in my camper to put a recliner in it so I can have my computer table. ONLY reason I wish to do this is it is far cheaper to cool that small space than it is to cool my 14×80 mobile home I plan to spend more time there than in the trailer. The smaller the space you have to remove heat from the less energy you use.

In terms of where you are parking this to live; are you doing it on the sly or are you finding a "loophole" or in compliance with the local zoning codes? Up here in NH in my town you can not live in any appurtenant structure or trailer fro more (I think) 15 days in one location.

The problem with tiny houses is Urban planners hates them. It is difficult for people who wanted tiny home to find property that are small and local community friendly enough to be neighbours. It always ended with tiny home being far away from jobs.

I wouldn't mind living in a tiny house at all, however finding property that allows it that is not in the middle of nowhere so that work is still accessible is another story. All the property I have looked at so far has required a structure much bigger by code.

Was thinking in a pinch she could heat some water on the stove and do a wipe down bath. Might sound primitive, but it really works for in-between showers and she has short hair. Then dump the water (provided her soap and hair soap is biodegradable) as grey water.

That would be nice, but the metro area where I am does not allow for just a trailer on the land, and actually requires there be a structural house in order to park a trailer there. So we are either stuck buying or building a house, or mooching off of friends or family, neither of which is an option.

Great outlook! I'd like to know how all the pics, statues and canisters (over the dining area) stay intact when you take the trailer everywhere. Also, didn't get a good look at the cook area. Are you able to cook a full meal or do you mainly eat out? Have you ever been bothered, security-wise?

THE INTERIOR OF THIS TINY HOUSE IS DESIGNED NOT WITH HER OWN INDIVIDUAL "TASTE". IT'S DESIGNED WITH ONLY FREEMASON ALIEN-HEBREW DECORATION. MINT GREEN PAINT, RED AND WHITE STRIPED CURTAINS, EVEN HER MUSTARD GOLD TURTLENECK SHIRT IS A MASONIC COLOR. LAUGHING MY ASS OFF. ALL YOU ALIEN HEBREWS ARE CONFORMIST ROBOTS. ZOMBIES DON'T HAVE GOOD TASTE, SO WHY NOT SHOWCASE WHAT JESUS AND THE DEVIL WANT YOU TO PUSH LIKE A DRUG. JESUS AND THE DEVIL (ISRAEL) DON'T HAVE GOOD TASTE EITHER. THAT'S WHY JESUS SIDES WITH HIS 7 BILLION LYING HEBREW-DEMONS, OVER MARY MAGDALENE/QUEEN ANNE OF AMERICA. LOL
