Agitator Cam Kit – Washer Appliance Repair (Whirlpool # 285809 Replacement Part)



thank you for choosing appliance video.com in this video we will replace the agitator cam kit the agitator cam kit is most commonly used in many whirlpool Maytag Amana and Roper washers our experts give this repair a level two skill rating level two being basic and can be performed by most non professionals using common tools the average time for completion of this repair is 20 minutes appliance video comet visors you to take caution while performing this repair during this video you will seek caution icons appear on the screen such icons include sharp edges electrical dangers gas and fire hazards lifting hazards water damage and delicate components you will need the following tools to complete this repair a ratchet a 10 inch extension bar and a 7/16 inch socket stop before you begin this repair make sure the appliance is unplugged from the wall outlet step one removing the agitator cam kit to gain access to the agitator cam kit we must first open the washer lid grasp the fabric dispenser and lift it straight up to take it off next take hold of the barrier cap and pull it up to remove we are now ready to remove the 7/16 inch bolt and washer within the clothes mover using a ratchet with an extension bar and a 7/16 inch socket attached hold the base of the closed mover in place with your hand and loosen the bolt completely by turning it counterclockwise then lift up the clothes mover to remove it and close the washer lid to have a working space to remove the agitator cam kit turn the clothes mover upside down with your hand underneath it and the kit should fall right out next tip over the cam kit to remove the 7/16 inch bolt and washer step two replacing the agitator cam kit now that you have a new agitator cam kit let's replace it to begin this repair you will install the four agitator dogs into the four slots of the dog holder first grasp one of the agitator dogs and slide the top teardrop into a slot in the holder repeat this step for the three remaining dogs and slots with the dogs in place you are now ready to secure them with the yellow driven cam bearing take note the bearing has four tabs that match up with the four slots in the holder align the tabs of the bearing to the slots and the holder and slide it down into place until flush to secure the dogs next you are ready to insert the 7/16 inch bolt and washer into the agitator cam kit take note do not install the bolt from the bottom of the cam kit as this is the wrong way to install the bolt correctly insert it from the top of the camp kit dropping it down into place now using a ratchet the socket on to the bolt so the agitator cam kit is upside down you are now ready to insert the kit onto the clothes mover it should be observed the clothes mover has two ends and there is an incorrect and a correct way when installing the kit into it the wrong end of the clothes mover does not have any inner teeth the correct end has the inner teeth that will be able to lock the dogs in place slide and align the correct end of the clothes mover onto the camp kit until flush now open the washer lid you will notice there are four tabs on the agitator these tabs correspond with the four slots on the cam kit insert and align the kit in the clothes mover to the agitator you may need to wiggle the kit onto the agitator to secure it into place then hold the clothes mover in place with your hand and use your ratchet to tighten the bolt by turning it clockwise until snug next insert the barrier cap with the tabs facing upward into the closed mover and press it in sealing it all the way around now place and align the dispenser onto the closed mover and tap it into place making sure it is secured you can now close the washer lid now reconnect your appliance to the wall outlet congratulations you have successfully completed this repair thank you for choosing appliance video.com you
