A Serene Bedroom Makeover for a Mom Who Survived Cancer | Home Made Simple | Oprah Winfrey Network

In 2008, I was diagnosed with stage 2b colon cancer. I was 24 years old. I had really just my Brandon. I wanted to continue my
relationship with him. After the diagnosis,
I was immediately put into the hospital. I had surgery and
removed part of my colon where the cancer was. Because I was young, it had
not spread to lymph nodes. When I first
found out that she had cancer, what I knew I had
to do was just remain positive. Seeing him so positive, I felt
that I was going to make it. And did you get through it? We made it. Ah. When I was looking
for a house, I always thought my master
bedroom was going to be the best part of the house. It was going to be the nicest,
no kids, clean, my sanctuary. That is not how my
master bedroom is at all. Our master bedroom is not the
sanctuary that Erin deserves. And I’d love to get a room that
she can really call her own. Hi! Welcome back!
– Hi! Thank you! We’re excited that you’re
back, because your new master bedroom is ready for you. – Very excited!
– So you want to see it? We want to see it! OK, all right. Come on. Here you go! Let’s go. All right. Ready? Oh my gosh. This is amazing. This is insane. This is insane. [GIGGLE] Is this our room? This is huge. It looks like the room
just doubled in size. This is incredible. I have like,
goosebumps right now. [CRYING] This is so beautiful. I never would have imagined
this looking like this. Gosh, this is incredible. So I know you see some
things that are familiar. Yeah, where’s my bench? Oh, look honey. Look, look, I made
this with Jonathan. You made that? Yeah. It’s beautiful. This is so beautiful. It holds. It holds. Oh my gosh. It’s beautiful. This is so incredible. I love you.
– This is beautiful. I love you. Veronica actually helped us
make those baskets for you. They’re custom made.
– Those are awesome! Look at the leather handles! I think now you have
just enough storage. Exactly. All these little
details just really make this room come together. Look at the bed that your
mom made, which is gorgeous. Looks amazing, yes. Brought some
color into the room. Yes. Look at this. The bedding is gorgeous. Remember these sheets
we got at Sam’s Club? I know, right? [LAUGHTER] They look awesome. What I love about this
space is that it’s small, but it’s also cozy
at the same time. You know, this bed looks it just
wants to hug you, doesn’t it? Every parent needs a retreat
in their master bedroom. You got to have a place
you can come relax and take care of yourself. This is amazing. I can have some
peace in here now. And I love the
curtains too, right? – The curtains are gorgeous.
– The crisp white? Yes. I think it really
opens up the room and it makes the space huge.
