2018 Interior & Spatial Design Industry trip to Helsinki, Finland.

My name is Ali Tabrizi. I am the course leader of Interior and Spatial Design at Bucks New University. In our course we believe without the sense of self and knowing who we are realistically the creativity innovation doesn’t have a chance to come to fruition, therefore nurturing our students’ individual talents is in the heart of Interior and Spatial Design course. This year we decided to take the students to Helsinki because we thought it is really valuable for students to see a different culture and see the influence of nature and the enviroment and their culture into design. So it gives the kind of contrast and the kind of background to the students. It broadens our students’ vision and they understand the aesthetic and then the design discipline behind interiors and an architecture or even the products that they see in different countries. We had an opportunity and organised for students to go out and visit Alvar Aalto’s House and studio as well as visiting Chapel of Silence and Rock Church, are quite a few to mention. I have to say the number one highlight was visiting the architect Juhani Pallasmaa in his office which was really inspiring and eye-opening for our students. In fact as well as meeting a couple of other designers who worked on a pavilion in Helsinki and we had an opportunity to go and visit the course leader at Aalto University. I’m already excited about next year. Maybe Milan, maybe another design capital so I’m excited to bring the best for our students. Let’s see.
