so random places valuables have been found 12 on a dog walk a couple in California discovered what ended up being a treasure trove while they were out walking their dogs the gold was found in eight different cans that were all buried in them there were over a thousand rare coins that date from the mid to late 1800s the total value came out to be eleven million dollars while they did get to keep a few coins they also donated a lot of it to charity finally they sold the rest on Amazon none of the coins had apparently ever been circulated and we're in mint condition States the professional coin grading service of Santa Ana the husband and wife wish to remain anonymous so that people on the lookout for gold come onto their land in hopes of finding more eleven in the family furniture this past fall a man in Normandy France remains anonymous came across about 100 kilograms of gold and his furniture the furniture came with the house he had inherited from a relative's will according to an auctioneer there were about 5,000 gold pieces recovered from inside the furniture which is worth at nearly 3 million British pounds on top of that there were more scattered piles of valuables found his home when he came across his valuable treasure he remodeled a wall and ceiling in the basement where they found a green case stashed in the ceiling between vaults what's interesting is that he and his wife used the toy banana to show the scale of what they found inside bundles of cash were hidden beneath old newspapers which were dated from 1951 the total amount of cash found came up to $23,000 all dating from 1928 to 1934 9 in an antique couch a few years ago in Berlin a German student purchased a thrift store couch for an equivalent of 215 dollars at a flea market what was inside the couch turned out to be way more valuable in the couch was a painting that measured 10 by 15 inches in titles preparation to escape to Egypt and while the artist is unknown it was known to be someone apparently close to Carlos Eris any a Venetian artist from the days of the Renaissance the painting itself seems to date somewhere between 1605 and 1620 the student remains anonymous but it is known that she sold the painting close to $30,000 at a hamburg art auction 8 buried in a barley field when movie show people hunting for hidden treasure it's usually found in the form of someone slightly eccentric on a beach or in a forest with a metal detector wandering aimlessly around pendo a veil but metal detectors have been proven to help people find hidden valuables before in 1999 Martin Elliott was helping his cousin Kevin Elliott he's a metal detector in a barley field there they came across thousands of coins that date back to the Roman era the pair were on Kevin's dad's farm near Glastonbury they found over 9 thousand coins starting from 31 BCE Kevin apparently found the coins less than five minutes into the whole search and he and his cousin ended up finding buckets and buckets full of old Roman coins 7 in a hotel ron weten and jenny Wettin owned a hotel business under the name of kerr digital Mizzou which operates in the South of France the couple were doing have owned the curl digital mazu since 2004 six in the wall about $500,000 in cash was found behind a wall by a contracting company a few years ago the cash was found hidden in ammunition can it made for a cool discovery but it quickly turned into a battle to determine who the money belonged to the contracting company or the family of the man of the house the problem was Robert's pans the owner passed away more than 10 years prior to the whole debacle according to his family they had even searched the house right after strands passing and he was known to stash away any valuables like gold so although the company found the cash it eventually went back to the family five at a garage sale it sounds like a plot point in the newest national treasure movie a man actually found and purchased an original copy of the Declaration of Independence the collector of the extremely valuable American document only dished out about $4 for it in a frame simply because he thought the frame looked nice this was back in 1991 and the Declaration of Independence was put up for auction add up to $1,000,000 there were many copies two and a half centuries ago but less than 30 were known to have made it next time you go to a garage sale or flea market you should try looking twice in case a copy of one of the most important documents in a nation's history turns up for in the mattress people keep cash and other things under their mattress all the time for some it's a way of not having to deposit money in a bank account to avoid any kind of servicing fees for this guy in Westborough Massachusetts it's because he was part of a pyramid scheme federal authorities found close to 20 million dollars under clever in a Rosario roaches mattress while the company actually sold what they said they sold they made more money from people paying to sign up and get recruited the man was seized by authorities and so was the hundreds of wads of cash in his box spring 3 in the yard a man from Ostia stumbled upon actual buried treasure the treasure trove consisted of hundreds of pieces of jewelry such as brooches ring pearls belt buckles aussolas coral and other valuables there was no fairy tale or legend or treasure map involved in the discovery of these ornate items the man only known as an GSK was digging through the dirt of his backyard when he discovered the jewelry in 2007 he didn't even tell anyone of significance about what he found and initially only posted photos online but collectors came across the pictures and told him he probably came across something incredibly valuable – on a cherry farm in 2015 a Swiss farmer was doing his daily routines when during a sweep through the old cherry orchards he came across a collection of gold coins the coins came from the era of the Roman Empire and dated back nearly 2,000 years ago an expert found that the coins were from Emperor aliens and Maximilian's reign from the late 200th century despite the coins being older than most things in a museum they appear to be in pretty good condition as the imprints remain easy enough to read no one had built anything on the orchard so the stash remained untouched for probably that long of a time alas the farmer isn't allowed to keep the coins as they are going into a museum one anywhere if you haven't heard Gabbar Joe hunt crazes has been hitting places like California the past for years scavenger hunt since so many people would leave them messages telling them what a difference and impact in their lives they made the scavenger hunts did stop for a while due to financial reasons but recently started up again with someone else giving away the money through clues left on Twitter people visit restaurants speeches parks and more recently the Santa Monica Pier to hunt for wads of cash

The story about the lunch box looking find is incomplete. They found another one, and because the money was so old it was worth much more than the mere face value.

Yeah, you find a treasure and drag it out …. and the Government and all the insurance companies and the banks and about everyone else will keep you from keeping it, at least for a dozen years or so.  Then here comes the IRS . . .
